post here if you've beaten deity
This is totally rediculous that Firaxis tries to tell us you can't beat Deity.
Please post here after you beat deity and give us your settings (#civs, barbarian setting, world setting) and the type of victory (bloodlust, cultural, spaceship, OCC, etc.)

I just finished at chieftain. Does that count? Didn't break any records getting there, either. Took into the 20th century for a spaceship victory.

I expect the "newbie/cheiftan crowd" to have a hard time. Guts like Ming, Paul, X-pack should have no problem...or at least that's what we were all prediciting.

I'm not sure where this came from. I am 100% convinced that Deity is beatable, and I don't believe that "we" ever said different. However, I do think that Deity in Civ3 is more difficult than Deity in Civ2, which was our goal in defining Diety.

I've been playing the game for 2 weeks now. I started off at Deity and won my first game, haven't had problems with the AI ever since. Really, that game is way too easy for my level of playing, I just don't know what problems you guys have...
... in my dreams that is

What do you mean by "win" at Deity?
I'm sure most people, well not most, but good people could atleast pull out a cheap Diplomatic victory or high score victory. I'll try it when i'm through with the one i'm playing

i actually doubt this. Ive found it easiest to be militaristic so far, and have conquered 3 civs so far (out of 7) but now im planning to settle down and explore the other victories

oh well, getting a ship to AC is also a decent victory
as is a cultural victory and a victory by diplomatic superiority
you see, it's not easy to win a decent way

Just hope you guys know how much AI tush we've been kicking in Civ2.
1. One City Conquest (OCC) (routine, and done in the 1500s!)
2. Diety +5 wins (edit the text files to raise the difficulty 5 layers harder than diety.
3. OCC in despotism.
4. OCC with a size one city!
etc.
etc.
Tell Sid about it. Bet you he'll be impressed what the crazies here were doing.

Yeah, I figured you all would make sure that the game was playable at all levels. That's how civ2 was done.

Beating it at Deity? no problem..
how about we try it with no going back on old saves (cheating ) except if you want a break.
I suppose it would be fair to choose a powerful civ like one with Religion or Science - I guess.
What would be interesting also is - how would civ2's AI fare against civ3's opponents? i'm sure we could connect them somehow , removing civ3's new bits so civ2 knows whats happening.. or is this 100% insane?

Well...I remember a lot of SMAC (sic) being talked by the ubervets about how they would start the game in deity and win easily. How's it going??

OCC with size one is impossible. The city couldn't produce any science rate to be of any use, You'd have to conquer the world basically with stuff you capture from goodie huts. also any improvements in the city would be lost to maitenance costs after being built. And that's not even accounting for not being able to maintain any form of military at all.
It's just impossible to actually win that way

Well, over at the SMAC boards, we have a few guys who did a no-base (no base, raze any bases you capture, try not to get your starting colony pods eaten by worms) victory on transcend.
I'm willing to believe anything after that.

OH. Sheesh. Newbie! People thought OCC was impossible at first. It's been done.
I'll find the thread and link to it. It had a really funny screenshot of the capitol city.

first off, I'm not a newbie.
And Second and more importantly what you have displayed is proof that someone once had a city that was size one at some point. I also sounds like he made it as a scenario or something. And Also he doesn't make any mention of what difficulty level he did it on. It would of course be possible on Cheiftan by simply stealing most techs.
And most Importantly i was under the assumption OCC stood for One City Conquest. He did not take over the world, he launched a ship.
Actually most important is probably the level issue.
Overall this isn't proof at all, and there's no way to tell if he kept the city at 1 always.

1. I'm sorry for the newbie comment. I was just swaggering and drinking.
2. All the OCC are done on diety.
3. If you want, I'm sure a savegame could be provided. Regardless there is an extensive log. And these guys have been playing OCC for 2+ years. I trust them as do a lot of the experienced civers here. I'm sure Ming beleives the claim.
4. Almost all OCC are done via spaceship. I've been on these boards for years. Ming will back me up on this. But the way, the OCC was invented on this site by Ming. Do some reading in the Civ2 strategy section oif you want perspective.

AI is Flawed
Given the serious game flaws in AI Diplomacy (highly overvaluing worthless cities, MillionDollarBug, etc.) & Combat ("Circling Armada Bug",etc.) the AI isn't up to par & has some serious achellis heels which can be exploited (knowingly or unknowingly). I would be interested in knowing who beat Diety without these flaws after a patch is out.
