Approaching 13,000 registered logins...!
... not users, but logins
Since Civ3 has been released (and the weeks before that), I have noticed many newbies with registration dates like "Sep 2001", "Oct 2001" and "Nov 2001"... one more time, the mechanism has been set in... a game is released, people buy it, many of them are ne wto civ games... they browse the web for information and find this place... most of us have found it this way, I haven't decided to join before I even read the address in some Civ2 hintbook though
The recent events in the United States have also lead to a higher sensitivity for (geo-)political topics, thus making the OT more popular for newbies. Therefore, in the days before the release, the traffic there was pretty high. The overall traffic at Apolyton, especially in the Civ2 section and the OT, has been decreasing since the release though, mostof the traffic is naturally happening in the Civ3 seciton now.
When I registered, 19 months ago, I got the registration number 5441, so the number of registered members has increased to an amount that is more than twice as big as that when I joined. The community is constantly growing, but with new posters arriving, old veterans leave us, for unknown reasons in most cases. Let us hope the servers won't explode one day
I give a to the site and the community... and if my post count stays untouched for a few weeks, owners and moderators get a as well
( for Markos, Dan, Ming, Matt, Michael and all those who we never get to read a post from but officially are moderators )
[/suck-up]
BTW, you can watch the figure of registered logins rise by just refreshing the main page evry 5 minutes... if you have got too much time by your hands that is

It is great for newbies to arrive here. The more people that arrive the more information we can get about Civing ... I love this site, unlike some who peruse many Forum sites this is my main one (98%) the only other ones I post at are a Property Investment Forum (1%), a Holiday Time Share Forum (.5%) and Civ Fantics Site (only because some MP players from here moved there .5%)
So hurray for Apolyton ( A silly name but you get used to it)
Looking forward to the celebrations when we hit 20,000!!!!

yeah, maybe I have gotten back to PC 5,000 by then
now without kidding, some of the newbies seem to be really decent Civ players, outdoing many of the vets we have here... strange, but makes sense if you think about it.... who doesn't waste time on a forum has more time to play CIV, so they're in advance

Now that doesn't make much sense, especially in connection with what I said... but oh well, you have been famous for flooding forums with nonsense...

actually you said this ... which indirectly means you have been suffering PCR (as in to get back to 5000) ... so therefore my post makes much sense... You also in another thread posted you lost 1000 PC after using a "+1" subject for a post ....

Though it doesn't make sense.
You basically said that I'm upsetting mods and that would lead to another PCR. I asked how I am doing that, you said I refer to PCRs and I can only get those by upsetting.... but that last statement doesn't explain how I am upsetting them. QED

It took Apolyton 3 Years to get to 11,000
... Then 3 Months to get to 14,000
... Hopefully with the new rate: 5 Users Per day; we will reach 21,000 in a year and 3 months

Indeed - new characters, new senses of humour, new viewpoints, perhaps even new nations at Apolyton. Inevitably some, if not most, will disappear, but I'm looking forward to the next generation of Supersneaks, Lincolns, Lindleys, E Street Traders, Brtndr4u's and Devilmunchkins.
If the hardware can cope, that is

Whats the use of a forum when you get server busy messages or when one of the more popular aspects of the furum is locked down? I like Apolyton's SMAC section here. It is the best that I've seen. But if the OT is locked down, then I have to go all the way across cyberspace to other forums. That and I have read some of the Civ3 posts and I see the same questions over and over again. Just cutting down on redundant questions and threads would go along way to reducing the problems.
