Australian Ads
If anyone's in Sydney, check the front page of the 5/11/01 Herald's Business section - page 35.
The bottom features a banner ad for Civ3, placed by Infogrames/GameNation, saying "OUT NOW ON PC CD-ROM".
I called Electronics Boutique at Burwood - they told me the game _was_ in, but that they'd sold out. I called EB Chatswood, they told me that the Burwood shop was lying, and that it wasn't shipping until 16/11.
The Gamesmen at Penshurst agreed with the Chatswood store, but added that the 16th was when it would ship from GameNation, so they probably wouldn't have it until the 19th.
Go figure.

EB @ Frankston (victoria) have been saying the release date is 19th November all along, I have civ 3 pre- ordered there and they will phone me if there are any changes.
Why we have to wait I do not know

So that we can look at the forum discussions and decide to wait for the post-patch reviews?

I hereby quote my half relevant post from some other thread:
I have Civ3 LE preordered at my local EB (Garden City) and they have given me a release date of 19th November.
I called my local EB today re: the New Zealand release date and they say that it is probably due to differences in parallel importing laws or something.
INTERESTINGLY, the chap I spoke to said that EB very strictly adhere to publisher's release dates and do this to stay in the publisher's good books. This I can appreciate and I guess they get brownie points for doing this and get special breaks from the publishers (maybe this is why apparently the LE is only available from EB in Australia - maybe this is not true though it is stated in their most recent catalogue though) He did say, however, that sometimes other stores like K-Mart or wherever 'break' and sell them before the official release date which is generally because they receive the stock well before release date and accidentally put the stock on the shelves because they are idiots. He said that in this case then they can get permission from the publisher/distributor or whoever to sell the game!!!
SO! If anyone in Australia can buy the game from somewhere or sees it on the shelves before 19/11, please post in this forum and we may be able to also get EB to release the game early, especially for all of those who have pre-ordered the LE from EB as it is one of the only places to get it at the same release date as the Standard Edition.
Otherwise we will then perhaps be able to get the game somewhere else!
Since then I have been playing a good 'demo' so the release date doesn't bother me much...

I visited Pulsar on Bourke street city yesterday and they said that they would have it in by the 9th. So if anyone wants an early copy they're going to have to catch a plane down to melbourne ($66 with Version). Is it worth it?

Thanks for that Taso. I was going to ring them yesterday to see if they were still planning on the 9th, but I didn't get around to it. And I figured they might be shut today with the Melbourne Cup on...

I asked around some gaming stores in large shopping centres in Melbourne and all are saying not before the 16th. An interesting point was that they had both editions coming out i.e. LE and the standard. They even gave me prices on both. Anyone else find out this info.

I'll be happy to wait. Gotta be convinced that AUD$66 is really good value for a Mark I.
Meanwhile the Civ3 forum will help give some sort of perspective.

Civ3 LE
2 questions:
1. Is LE really being released in Australia? I though it was only North America.
2. How much will it cost??!! >:-)

As I just mentioned in the other thread, I just rang Pulsar on the corner of Bourke and Elizabeth and they said they were told last week to expect it on the 9th. After I told him that everywhere else was saying the 16th, he seemed a little bit more unsure, but said that he was only telling me what he'd been told. Fingers crossed.
I didn't ask him about LE, but if you want to, their number is 9670 2300

Electronics Boutique had a catalogue about a month ago with the LE tin in it. It had a big red circle 'EB Exclusive' stamped on the picture. I have pre-oredered the LE tin from EB so I imagine we are getting it.
SE AU$90
LE AU$110

I was told after the store person checked the dates of delivery that LE and SE were AU$109 and AU$99 respectively. I think some places would have SE for AU$89.

Keep in mind, tonic, that $66 is only part of the cost. You also have to go to (shudder) Melbourne.

EB Frankston is still saying the 19th for both standard and LE edition. They said they will receive stock on the 16th but cannot release until the 19th.

Civ 3 release
I spoke to ozisoft Aust this morning. They are the distributors for Aust for civ3, they informed me that they releasd the game from their warehouse on frid 9th of Nov and that all stores on the eastern side of Aust should recieve it later today but that the street release date for the game will be Tues 13th or Wed 14th depending on the stores. I think you will find that the games stores base their release dates on what is listed from the distributor in it's order sheets. Since Civ 3's release was moved forward by a week all the stores would have outdated info unless they rang ozisoft directly which none of them do. So keep your eyes peeled in all stores. I had hoped that it would be released today but the chances of that are slim. If anyone see's the game instores then post it on the forum for everyone

Civ3 at Military Simulations
I had a tentative pre-order with Military Simulations (a mail order company in Melbourne) not really expecting to get it until well after the 16th and really planning to get it from e-bay next monday.. However..
On Tuesday the 13th I got a call in the afternoon from milsims saying they had copies and were shipping them right away. I ordered and had the game in my hot little hands by Thursday (the 15th)! I was damn impressed with the service - oh and the game is pretty good too
http://www.milsims.com.au - for anyone without a store nearby..
Eccles.
