Clear forest for Wonders
I´ve got a new one regarding the debate on wether clearing forests adds shields to wonders or not.

When I tried it last time, the shields actually diminished, I swear it! I had 18 shields, when the worker cleared the forest it jumped back up to 20!

You can all call me crazy but I saw it happen!

Errrm, it just occured to me (after some much needed sleep), that maybe I was using that forest in the city.

Sorry all, I´ll try and get some sleep before I post anything next time.

But someone really should straighten out this thing. Can you or can you not, get extra shields to your wonder by clearing forests?

vel has also incorrectly reported that growing cities from 2-3 takes more food than growing them from 1-2, and based his entire early-game strategy around that. do be careful about believing what you read!

Fair point. But still, there´s seems to be a lack of official statement on this...

Sooner or later there´ll be a patch. What do you people think, should they make it easier to build wonders?
I feel it´s a taaaad bit difficult...

It may just be difficult based on your situation in a specific game. In my current (first; and admittedly cheiftan) game, I've built every wonder except for the great wall, and they took no longer (most shorter) than they did in CivII. This was probably mostly due to starting out on a continent w/ no rivers (actualy half of a very large one, the other half had a river), which meant no irrigation and therefore mining every square.

Building wonders should not easy. It should be an effort.

Well, for what it's worth, use your spying and "fake palaces" and you can beat the computer to a lot of wonders. They will get a lot of them though.

I think wonder building is in the "sweet zone" right now. Players shouldn't have all of them. It creates more incentive to go to war. And it is really cool when you're about to build a wonder and the enemy finishes it beforehand. BTW, it's your fault if that happens, because you're *SUPPOSED* to be spying on enemy cities building the wonder, then you can see if you're going to make it or not.

Very cool system once you get the hang of it.

I'll try to clear this up. I tested it quite a bit the other day.

You can clear forests to add 10 shields to your production in the city where the forest was cleared from....unless you are working on a Wonder, SS component or Palace. If you are working on a normal structure or military unit, the production so far will have 10 shields added to it. I tested this in Democracy, so the number of shields may be different in different government types.

Be careful though. The programmers were thorough. If you have done ANYTHING to increase the number of shields produced already, including speeding production or forest clearing, then you will not be able to change the production to any Wonder, SS component or the Palace. You can't buy a Cathedral, then change to a Wonder anymore.

But clearing forests will help you build other structures faster, so it is useful. Just not for Wonder building.

What about clearing a forest outside a city radius?
Does clearing a forest not in a city's radius give it a shield bonus?
