I just realized that using the free worker to get that first settler out my not be a bad idea. I was still able to dig out two roads, one of which was two squares from my capital center, and get my worker back in time for the settler build.
As it stands, I was able to get a second city founded before any of the AI. Actually, I was a couple turns ahead of the AI when I did this. I had some very good cow squares too, so that also helped.
But several turns after I got my second city out, I noticed that a couple of the AI civs built their third city. I wasn't too far in following though.
I wonder if using that worker can give us the kick start we need to stay on par with the AI's expansionism?
but out of curiousity, how often do you get one? I get tech advances, and gold, or damned barbarians. I always get my second city by 3000 BC(E), and then, if I am very lucky, I can start my empire building. If I am very lucky, by 10 AD, I have 10 cities. Nows thats expansionism!
