Why even bother with random civs on small/tiny maps?
Gripe of the day:

I think the whole "global" culture thing is a tad overdone, especially when you play on smaller sized maps (like I do). When I select two "RANDOM" opponents for my tiny maps, I *expect* them to be random. In reality, they're anything BUT.

If I play the Chinese on a 3-player Tiny map, I'm always pitted "randomly" against India and Japan. What's worse is that my games always seem to pan out the same (early contact w/ India).

I know I can pick my opponents, but half the fun of playing 4X games is discovering who you're playing against.

I also know I can turn off the global culture by disabling the Civ3 abilities...But I don't want to sacrifice the uniqueness of my civ just to get a batch of random enemies that would ALL be the SAME!!!

I've even tried eliminating the global culture flag from all civs, but this just causes game errors...

::sighs::

So much for randomness...

Think of it this way. You're next to civs with one less reason to annihilate you.
