Anyone still here?
I was just wondering. Looks like someone forgot to let the maid in. The forum looks a little dusty.
*starts to clean up a little bit and leaves to the sound of a creaking door*

Traffic's bound to die down from here on in - it's what's known as the Civ3 factor

I'm still SMAXing, but I have to admit it's only because my pre-order for Civ3 hasn't yet arrived. It has been shipped, so any minute now....

If the 12.1" screen on my laptop (800x600 max) or my old P2 200 would support Civ3, I'd be outta here too...

I think there are still pretty fair numbers around but I don't bother to poke my head in here much since the forum is so dang slow and about half the time ai have difficulty even accessing the place.
There still is a very active group over in MP however and posts continue over there.
I actuallu broke down and bought Civ3 but have only played one evening. The first go round seemed far from addicting. I actually found the lack of specificity in the manual to be maddening.

If someone gets Civ3 working well in WINE (or WineX), or produces a native Linux port, I'll buy it. No questions asked (other than "are you sure it works?").
Until then, SMAC/X still reigns supreme here.
The lousy manual could be a ploy to sell you a real manual later in the guise of a "strategy guide". Perhaps they're taking a few moves from Activision's playbook?

I've been peeking into the Civ 3 forums, and I've decided I'll be waiting for a patch or two before jumping in. That and for Velociryx or somebody to figure out some of the more mathematical aspects of the game (particularly culture takeovers.)
So for now I'm still SMACing.

I am around A LOT but there is few others and the server is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOO busy. Is there actually anything new to debate or discuss (beside the grand "yavoon-unbalanced factions-discussion") lately?
Having NO intention buying civ3 the only fun plave to "hang around" at Apolyton have to be OT from now on.

I would post here, but usually when there's chance,
The server is too busy. Try again later.
So, the AC community and multiplayer suffers over the huge build-up of traffic due to Civ3. Which I'll get as soon as I can scour up enough euros for some improvements to my computer.

Creideiki? I have never witnessed a post of you here. Ever never. For, what, four months.
Any word from Markos yet? Did you PM him again?

Hey Avenoct, I have been trying to reach you, but neither email nor PMs have brought a response. If you read this, could you take a look at the ACT058 thread over in AC-Multiplaying?
[/threadjack]
Hmm. The time bug is back. This was posted after Avenoct's post.

**punches the time clock**
Yep, I'm here, when the server lets me...
I'm one of those people who now has Civ III (long story). Gee, I really wanted to play a dumbed down version of Civ? So far, it's pretty, but a wee tad simplistic, especially for someone who prefers Smac over Civ in the first place! Firaxis, make strategy games for strategists!

*rings counter bell repeatedly*
"Service! Service! How can a guy get any service around here!?"
I must also concur with T-birds analysis of the situation at hand. I'll be bidding my time until a patch or three manages to crawl out of the Firaxis's fiery axis.
That's gotta burn.

LOL
I am here. Also in the CIV3 area. I am fully convinced that I will never, ever get any more work done.
Flubber: I have found CIV3 absolutely addictive. LONG games though. And yes, as expected, the manual does suck. Great game anyway. Vel seems to be beginning work on strategy, so there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm here, there and under the rock in the corner. . 8 MP games and 1 sp game (yeah, so I'm bored, so what? ).
I decided to wait on the Civ3 to see if it was worth buying. Based on what I've heard so far, I think I'll wait... at least until they get MP. I would rather play MP smax any day than Civ2. I've played Civ2, Civ2:tot... and found this game the only one that is truly addicting to me. *shrug*. What can I say, I LOVE THIS GAME!

Just as soon as I get Civ III, I'll be bolting to the Civ3 forums... after a 42-hour marathon session, of course

your friendly neighborhood despot is here as well,
To paraphrase the great Jack Handey:
I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world because they would never expect it.
Sounds like something Chairman Yang would say!

Hey, Basilisk! Isn't it so much fun running through the halls of Apolyton at 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning, when everybody else is

Here's Smack's summary of CIV III from a Smac perspective:

Well, at some are still here. From what I have heard Civ3 wasnt a big disappointment, but not something to write home to grandma about either. Ill wait until the initial lust of the game is gone and people start giving honest evaluations of the game. I still have a very bad taste of CTP in my mouth.

My sentiments exactly. And when my comp would require upgrading to run the forsaken thing, buying it is out of question, at least for now.
I'll too see what the patches can salvage.

Oh my...
I still drop in every once in a while, though not like I used to. I'll probably get Civ 3 for Christmas, but somehow I don't think SMAC/X will ever lose its appeal. It would be nice if Firaxis would come back to it to fix some of the bugs though.
