Hey, the metric system rocks. The Americans should have switched to it too.

It costs the US millions every year due to the inefficiency of the Metric System. I think the USA will, when given a choice, always accept that which is English over that which is French, whatever the cost.

Of course, I'm posting, and not playing, but that's cause I'm waiting for the turns to spin in the last years of the tourney game...

The inefficiency would have to be that americans have to spend that much on converting things TO and FROM the metric system, because that's what the rest of the world uses.

America is already switching to the metric system.

just look at the stock market. They recently switched from using fractions (imperial) to decimals (metric). Soon it'll be taught in all the schools.

back to on topic stuff

I love this story thread! it's great! Your civ is shaping up very nice, even tho it's going through different rulers! Everyone is doing a great job!

Sorry - I meant inefficiency of not having it.

Anyway, on topic, I just finished the Tourney game and am all cived out for the day. I will have the next installment of the Russian Saga tomorrow.

In the meantime, check out my tourney game in the thread - I'm the current leader, at least for the current 5 second period.

Also, hype this thread for story of the week if you like it (though there are some other great ones out there, as I discovered while terminally bored at work today)

We're supposedly metric here, but it only seems to apply to petrol stations...

Uh oh...

I am starting to get the hang of this forum thing

I think I finally figured out how to do screen prints (Thanks Osweld)...

Dare I say that I will include screen prints with my next turn?

Where i go!!! Only some major happenings reported.

1020 AD- Traded Zulu incense for Ivory and Gems. Sold Printing Press to the French.
.......
1070 AD- Gunpowder Discovered. Traded it for Astronomy with the Babylonians. We have one source of Saltpeper but it's out of borders and must build a road threw 3 or 4 mountains. Start gathering workers to go there.

1170 AD- Researched Banking. Started researching economics.
1180 AD - Sold some older techs to France and Zulus. Babys are researching fast. They have all we have plus Navigation.
1190 AD - J.S.Bach built in Sodoma Rus.
1200 AD - Saltpaper connected threw eoad and with an colony. Building Fortress there and sending a Pikemen.
1220 AD - Made contact with Americans. Traded world map and some gold for two very old techs. They are very technologic backward since they only have contact with Babys.

Now i must retire!

KING/PRESIDENT DOWNER THE 3RD
1230AD - 1340AD

(0)1230AD - British make contact with me and ignore their request. A university is completed in Sodoma and I begin construction on a bank, also in Tbilisi a marketplace is completed and order for another university. Telloh is overthrown! I start construction of a harbor there to encourage growth.

(1)1240AD - I patch up some irrigation/mining work and disband the galley off the coast of the americas due to its awkward position and no use. I contact Shaka of the Zulu's and trade silks for ivory, contact with the americans and 150 gold. I also setup a deal with the Persians for horses for fur, gems, contact with the americans and 100 gold. I also contact Hammurabi and ask that he withdraw his troops. Finally I setup a meeting with the French and manage a deal to trade fur for 6 gold per turn.

(2)1250AD - A bank is constructed in Moscow, I order them to start work on a Harbor. Some bad news however, the Babylonians have completed work on a great project called Leonardo's Workshop, what a pity indeed. I also decide to end the war with the british, they are too far to cause us anymore trouble. I start various mining projects but nothing else interesting happens.

(3)1255AD - I decide to rush build the harbor in Dover due to stagnant growth.

(4)1260AD - The harbor being completed in Dover, I order construction on a courthouse to calm the corruption a bit. Econmics is discovered! I decide its time for a new government and research diplomacy, which should be completed in my life time. I head the hordes of settlers we have near Tbilisi south to help out with the mining and irrigation.

(5)1265AD - I send 5 more settlers towards the newly taken city of Telloh to mine the iron and gold there.

(6)1270AD - A library is completed in Coventry and I immediately start work on a University.

(7)1275AD - France wants to trade Territory maps with her and and I deny her request due to her wretched excuse for a nation.. A harbor is produced in Liverpool and order a university to be built.

(8)1280AD - Copernicus's Observitory is built in Kievan! We should see a boost in our scientific research! I then order construction upon a bank to increase our tax revenue. A university is built in London and also decide a bank would be appropriate. A bank is also completed in Sodoma and I decide to under take a great wonder known as Smith's Trading Company! Another bank is completed in St.Petersburg and decide a barracks would suit the city fine. A granary is built in Kiev and order construction on another university. A mining project near Telloh is undertaken to mine for iron.

(9)1285AD - Unfortunetly the Babylonians are building the same project as we are. I decide to take up on some espionage and see what they are up to. For 170 gold I find out it'll take them 50 turns to complete the project in Babylon, while we have a mear 30. This is good news. Various mining and deforestation projects are undertaken

(10)1290AD - A bank is completed in Gamorrah and I have some doubts on what I should build next but ultimately go for barracks.

(11)1295AD - Another university in Tbilisi and another bank being constructed. A mine near Telloh is complete and I order them to mine the nearby hills.

(12)1300AD - A barracks is completed in St.Petersburg and decide its time to beef up our army a bit and order for a knights unit.

(13)1305AD - Democracy is discovered! I decide Navigation would be useful so we can trade with america and it'll be much easier to initiate wars across oceans. I order for a revolution to democracy, hopefully anarchy doesn't last too long.

(14)1310AD - A few starvations occur but nothing serious.

(15)1315AD - Nothing interesting happening..

(16)1320AD - News is that the Babylonians are working on Shakespeare's Theatre.

(17)1325AD - Shaka of the Zulu's is demanding I give him banking! This is absurd! Surely he must be joking! I do hope he is joking! I mean he does have quite a grin on his face, that must be it! I tell him to take his empty threats elsewhere and he tells me my "insolence has been noted" He had better be careful..

(18)1330AD - Argh! This revolution is killing me!

(19)1335AD - *sigh* Still no sign of the revolution letting up..

(20)1340AD - Finally democracy!! I've become the first president of glorious Russia!!! Unfortunetly a group of last minute rebels decided to raid my palace and me with it

Good job not giving up banking to Shaka. We must keep the secrets of Interest Bearing Accounts secure!!

Anyway, I'm moving tomorrow and won't be settled until middle of next week. (Getting ready to move is, btw, why I haven't been around as much). Anyway, if my turn is up, go ahead and skip me. If we want, it looks like a couple of us are busy, so we could call a 1 week pause to the game. Up to you guys.

Ok. let's meet again next Wednesday here. Whose turn is it? Whoever's up should go ahead and play, and then post the story whenever's good for them over the next week. The next person after that should post 72 hours after say, noon on Wednesday (12/5), at the latest.

Fans: don't desert us - we'll be back. There are lots of other succession games starting. That's great, but let's keep this one the best.
