I have created the largest and most detailed world map ever (I think)
Using Julius' gigamap hexing idea thing, I have created the largest and most detailed world map Civ 2 has ever laid eyes on, it is spectacular (I am not trying to be arrogant at all), if you would like the map just e-mail me at NKReefer@aol.com, I will send it as soon as I get the chance. I would also be interested in eventually playing a diplogame on said map, which I think would be cool, no joking this map is quite awesome.

I'd like to see this too. I'm thinking of making an Imperialism scenario on a bigger-type map. The original gigaworld one jus wasn't that much bigger.

I don't really look at this thread or even go to the forums too much, so everyone who posts that they want the map after I put this post up will not get the map, you have to e-mail me at NKREEFER@aol.com, and if you are interested in playing a diplogame on this map after I send it to you, then e-mail me again. There ya go. I will also probably put the map in my FTP space, so here would be the link:
If that doesn't work, I haven't put it up yet becuase I am not at home right now, so just wait or e-mail me. I would also appreciate it if someone would give me feedback or post here as to how good/bad the map is.

Capo, I've sent you a mail. As soon as I get your map, I will review it.
But why don't you submit it to Apolyton ?
If it is a good one (as I am quite sure) why not let everybody enjoy it ?

First impression: if you're going for accuracy, the Pacific and Atlantic oceans look awfully skinny. The distance from Australia to South America should be about twice the distance from Australia to Madagascar. Likewise, the distance from Canada to Ireland should be about the same as from Ireland to Moscow.
There seems to be some distortion in the northern latitudes - Canada seems large compared to the U.S., and Siberia compared to China.

Heh, I should have said this earlier, but the reason the oceans are messed up are due to the fact that I was going for land over water in this map because I intended on playing diplogames (sorry if that wasn't clear). As for Siberia being bigger than China, it is much larger than China is, and Canada is much larger than the United States as well.
But yeah I can see the problems with distances, but like I said, I was going for more realistic land shapes rather than their shaps and dimensions as compared to the oceans.

I added a few small rivers in europe, thames(with grassland), seine, tiber, and I changed the plains in Japan to a grassland. I also put more grass land on the Nile. I put more grassland on Ganges. I changed BC a lot, since it is my home province, added a grassland on river and Vancouver Island (which is quite large). As on most world maps, I changed plains to tundra and grassland to plains on Greenland.
I like the good distance between germany and russia, and i like the good terrain in SE Asia. It does seem like a pretty short hop between Ireland and Nefoundland. France is still smaller than the default world.mp, map is still too small for Low Countries and Sicily. You did get Corsica and Sardinia, and a good Greece.
hmmm...oh, and India looks a little wierd zoomed up.
Great job!!

Okay, downloading from your HTML link to the URL above, Capo, I was able to get a map that was absolutely huge, but only displayed the northern hemisphere of the world correctly. Even stranger, bits of the map kept on turning into desert, or double irrigated land with railroads!
The southern hemisphere just under Beijing's latitude was either a big ocean or a huge big block of desert.
Please help! I'd love to have an epic game on this wonderful map, but it's just not working for me!

Is there something wrong with my version of the game? I have installed both Conflicts in Civilization and Fantastic Worlds to my copy of Civ2, and the big ginormous map that I'd been hoping to see is just a huge expanse of oceanless desert!
What's going wrong???
(The map name is DIPLOMAP.mp)

Capo, your map is really a good one. One that is very enjoyable to play. It's what matters. The little critics that have been made are, I think correct, but one should not make them before trying to create a map by himself. It is so much work. Details of the continents are great, although I think the size is not always correct, especially south America, but it is hard to tell. A few islands could have been added (ex the Falklands), a few river too (ex : the Yukon). I was surprised not to see moutains for the Sierra Nevada in California, I climbed the 14400 and some feet (4416m) Mount Whitney some years ago and ... No, I stop !
It's really fun to play it and it is looks pretty real ! That's all that matters !
Congratulations for the nice work !

Sorry, but gigamaps only work for Civ Multiplayer and Civ Tot. Nothing else you can do but keep on playing on good old maps.

Alright alright, I'll admit, when I made it I was being too arrogant and self-serving to realize that I made lots of huge errors.
So sorry, the map in actuality sucks, the oceans are way to small, but I have to admit that when I played on it it was so much freakin fun. So if you have a problem with my map fine, if you like it but want to change it suit yourself, its not my map, its Civ's map, so thanks for the positive feedback.
Peace.
