still, it was two different cases: in the first game they egyptians didnt choose to hate, they just happened to be in the same continent with me and they were blocking my expansion
in the second though, it was just me, the french and the egyptians, we had never been in war and i had actually protection pacts with both when the egyptians decided to brake it

It looks like some of the multimedia/eye rewards were improved but some problems were present. In Civ2, it was painfully obvious that the Spaceship part of the game was not well done. The build screen was ugly, the in-flight screen looked like 1982 computer graphics (although the landing at AC was nice), and the manual and strat guide and civopedia were all missing explanations of how the SS part of the game worked.
In Civ3, it looks like they've done some nice things but still have some holes. The replay is good. The SS build screen is better, but the landing sequence is worse. And all the wonder movies are missing (downgrade from Civ2 and SMAC. And really unfortunate...for non-hard core gamers, these types of reward are very nice.) Also, looks like they went pretty cheap on the diplomatic vitctory screens. Would have though they would give you more eye candy. Somethings like what Markos suggests. Since you have all the leaders art, use it better to create some type of fun conclusion.

I'm joining the others to thank you for the good summarized job you have done with your impressions, Markos. Good visuals and comments, just to the point.
The spaceship screen is one of my favorites too, and as I already said elsewhere and in my review, the UN election is chunky on the other hand, without any graphical detail - this is a drawback. Like me many of us seem to feel not really rewarded when we complete a game by any other victory than Space. I don't think the sole reason to avoid a second disc at release is sufficient to justify this. NOT A SINGLE VOICEOVER in the game??? I never saw this in any decent & recent game... Perhaps in an upcoming expansion, extra $$$$$.

Alexander the cruel????
I just looked at one of your end game screens, and saw you listed as "the Cruel".
What's up with that? I thought they confirmed a few months ago that we get the "Dan Quayle" screen, not the "forkbeard" screen.
did they change their mind at the last minute?

The one thing that was disappointing was that the UN was only used for the diplomatic victory. I can understand why they would do this, since it's built near the end of the game, but I feel it would be better if it came earlier on and allowed more global diplomatic options (pollution agreements, etc).

God I hope that there aren't any voice overs, my computer already slows to a crawl when I have the music on in the late industrial age...forget about enemy unit animations.

The rough edges all look to me like bits that were intended to be completed but got pruned back to a few text windows because there was insufficient time to complete the art and test the resulting code. Something extra for them to include in the MGE pack if they want to make it a heavyweight rather than bare bones enhancement.

I also hope that they do fix some of the frills/ambiance gaps. They didn't with Civ2 though. As techies, (and marketers) there interests will lie more with true added features like MP and scenarios than things like the missing wonder movies and poor endgame screens.

still can't believe that you can't bribe for votes and i really can't believe that they didn't make the voting graphical in any way. but it's true.
minor things, though.

Markos you say "no rubber, no fuel cells" instead of URANIUM, 'cause you need uranium to make fuel cells & space victory.

Nicely done Mark G.
The idea of a review consisting of a long series of screenshots with commentary is clever and should definitely be adopted by professional game sites to supplement their main text-reviews.
Why is it that the "professional" reviewers never come up with such ideas?
