Okay...I played my first game in Chieftain, and my second game in Warlord (I quit that one half-way, because the 16 civs on a huge map was begining to get sloooooow). But anyway, that second game I was behind in tech from the word go. Of course, I tried to trade with the other AIs, and found them to be appropriatley stingy.
So then, I started another game (Warlord, but a regular map with 8 civs) and, again, I was falling behind in tech. But then some weird crap started happening.
I met the Russians, they *offered* me a tech for 1 gold. Then I met the French, they had 2 techs I didn't have, and I asked Joan what she wanted for one of them...she asked for like 10 gold. .
I asked again for the other one...same deal. I haven't look back since...I own everyone now

But anyway, the AI was being rather generous, I'd say. Has this happened to anyone else?
