I don't trust IGN anymore. bunch of ripoff, cheap losers. generally they review betas or late versions of games, but in the case of civ3, when their article was very very early, they made it way too obvious.
check some past news items...

nah, IGN is really trustworthy.
The past 10 games I bought were INCREDIBLE and IGN gave them great scores.
I've depended on IGN in the past and they always delivered in the review category. Just like how the Civ team always delivers great games (except Alpha Centauri).

I lost a lot of trust for many review sites after B+W, but I still think that generally, ign and gamespot are pretty accurate.

damn right they are pretty accurate!
They nailed it on the dot for games like Civilization 3, Grand Theft Auto 3, Devil May Cry, Gran Turismo 3, Age of Kings, etc.
