A cry for help!
Does anyone know where I can still get a copy of SMAX?
My copy is gone and I've been desparetly searching for another to no avail. It seems to be sold out everywhere.
I'd pay good money for it 2nd hand/the planetary pack/whatever.
Can anyone help?

i think the search is "temporarily" disabled, but when its working again do a search because there have been about 500 threads about this before. the place i got it from doesn't have it anymore

I've seen it advertized on Chips and Bits for $16.95 recently. I haven't seen it in stores in over 6 months, though. There is always e-bay, but that might be overkill. At LAST resort you might get someone to burn a copy if it is out of production and completely unavailable.

Ships and Bits has been out of stock for over 6 months, but they continue to run banner adds for it.

This may seem like a silly question, but what is the difference between the US and UK versions? I might like a backup copy in case my CD goes belly up or has a tragic accident.

I installed the UK version of alien crossfire over the US version of alpha centauri and have had no problems. It came with a nifty poster with all the techs and breakthroughs mapped out, along with a brief manual detailing the new factions, features, and fixes. It's fun
As for getting another copy for backup... Better to just get a crack if you're worried about the cd breaking. You can get a no-cd fix at www.megagames.com under pc game fixes. My cd-rom is a really loud cheap pos so I always get no cd fixes for all my games.

*ahem*
After checking about, I found SMAC in precisely three places in
my town: A local bookstore having a sell-off of old softare (75% off), a cd-only copy in Radioshack's used bin, and the Mac copy of the planetary pack at a music store. Let's just say that SMAC isn't on the shelves of any new-software store any more :P.
I guess it's appeal just isn't great enough to the unwashed masses - but it's still a great game if it does take a certain type of brainy geek to like it . The web sounds like the best place to find a copy for certain - but I got mine at that wonderful 75% discount.

I checked around in Calgary and lots of places have Smac in their bargain bins (CD only--no box/manual/tech tree) but Smax is not to be found in any place I looked.
