Optimal placement of Forbidden Palace
How far away from the capital is it best to place the forbidden palace?

Since the FP acts as a second Palace, I think there's no set place that would be best. Good ideas might be a second continent, or the opposite end of the same continent...

Have you ever tried building it on another continent?

Unless you have a great leader, your looking at 300 turns to build it!!!!

Corruption is nasty in this game!!!

This is kind of odd, but I like it. What my housemate does is to build his FP in a city very close to his normal palace. Shortly after it is completed, he moves his palace anywhere in the world that it is needed. This way, his "homeland" always has the FP there to help things out. On top of that, the mobility of the central palace, which can be moved again, serves as a potent way to continue bulking up new areas. It is quite hard to get the palace moved, but it does work out in the long run. Anyone else like this--I haven't tried it yet.

Very useful idea, Sniffer!
I think I'll try it, but it seems that one would run into the same problem if moving the palace. on another continent. High levels of corruption would make the building(moving) of the palace quite slow.

Nonetheless, a splendid .

I am curious about the timing of such a move. I would think that moving the main palace around is costing you in Culture points. Once moved the first time it wouldn't really be an issue, but aren't you getting improved Cult Points for the length of time the palace stays in one place?

And, of course, the question remains, why do you feel that building a new main palace in an islated location is easier or faster than the FP?

In my game now I am building it on a continent on the other end of the world. Under democracy, I was able to get 5 good shields of production with a courthouse. I think it will take 60 turns or something, but it's a lot better than 300...

Re: Culture points

It seems to me that no matter how long your palace sits where it starts, it never gets above 2 cp/turn. Given that it starts at 1, the loss of a cp is no big deal.

Yeah by the Industrial Age my capital usually produces around 45-60 culture points anyway (maybe not so good compared to others, but I dunno) but that point is that 1 or 2 points doesn't really affect too much, especially when you look at the benefits of moving the Palace around...great idea!

That's about what I had; a little less maybe, but I had a number of mountains in my city limits.

This seems like a viable tactic, really. Scoot out to another continent and stake your claim, build a number of cities and just make sure they're militarily and culturally protected; get your courthouse ready, and as soon as you get democracy or communism, get working on the FP. They cities may be a burden in the early game, but the extra land is worth it even then, with the potential for finding resources.

Yeah, I'd rather have that scarce rubber or coal resource (I'd argue that coal is more valuable than rubber, in many cases) and a bunch of shitty cities than no coal and a few kickass cities.
