3 Players wanted for Aliengames II
The Battle for Manifold Six was oversubscribed, so I'll set up a second game.
Players already in are:
Rastapopoulos
Radman
Set-up:
After the battle between Judaa Marr and Lular H'minee, the crews of the 2 scoutships broke into small factions upon landing on Planet. 3 came from the Usurper ranks and 2 from the Caretaker ranks. (for play-balancing purposes)
Now the race is on to cotrol Manifold Six for yourself, or to summon your colleagues from the distant starfleet
Huge map, transcend level, no AI, average everything else
Only winning conditions are:
Conquest (total subjugation of the other alien factions)
and
Fleet Arrival (you summon the Battlefleet)
You can make alliances, break them - even between Usurper and Caretaker factions - but there is only 1 winner.
Factions are:
From Scoutship 427_s:
The Usurpers
The Overlords
The Warriors
From the Warship Harmony:
The Caretakers
The Preservers
We need 3 more players. First come, first served

Still need somebody?
I'm in a bunch of games, but they all seem to be moving slowly, and would love to try something different.
Indra
Black Sunrise
hoping this one has a custom map?

All right, we have game !!
Turn order will be in the order of sign up:
From Scoutship 427_s:
The Warriors - Conqueror Rastapopoulos
The Overlords - Conqueror radman
The Usurpers - Conqueror Flubber
From the Warship Harmony:
The Caretakers - Conservator Black Sunrise
The Preservers - Conservator Flotax
Visit Ryn's Gallery to download the clone faction graphics (third in the green box in the right of the screen):
http://googlie2.tripod.com/rynnsgallery/id7.html
And unzip them right into your smac directory. (You don't need to alter the alphax.txt or anything, the game carries it's own in the .sav file but needs to read the factions in your directory)
The map will be custom, as all my scenarioed maps are.
Flotax: can you e-mail me your e-mail address to:
linfrew@aol.com
Thanks,
Googlie

Turn: awaiting
So just so I know, do you need to download those graphics for everything to work. I'll do it on my home machine just to see them but on my work laptop I try to minimize non-work stuff

OK - what happens if you don't load the files?
I moved all the files to my desktop and then ran the game.
When you first fire up the game, it will use the five slots that are in your latest .ini file, so you might get Usurper as Deirdre, one as Yang, one as Zak, etc (depending on what was the last game you played) - however after you have saved and exited that turn, your system will not allow another game to load (as your .ini file now has Warrior, Overlord and Preserve as factions in it - and you don't have these in your alpha file.
Worse, your system hangs, and you can only exit the unusable game screen through ctl/alt/del - end task - of s..m..a..c.. and again ctl/alt/del - end task - of terranx. Your system is then unfrozen with your correct resolution.
You can get round that by going into your alpha centauri.ini file and manually resetting these 3 clone factions to real ones - then you can load another game.
If you install just the three clone .txt files, you remove that problem (ie you can save, exit, and play another game without text editing) but during that alien game the three clone factions will all have Gaian characteristics - not a problem in the early game, but a real problem after contact - and bases - have been established (all base bnames will be the same for the 3 clone factions)
The only foolproof method is to load the graphics files as well as the .txt files. (but obviously the occasional turn could be played on a different PC provided you change your .ini file afterwards)

The Battle for Manifold Seven
If there had been a Manifold 7, what might it have looked like ... what alien structures might be there, and in what form - and here Black Sunrise has given me the benefit of his ideas - so expect the unexpected
And I need 3 e-mail addresses before we can go much further:
Rastapopoulos
radman
Flotax
Can you send me something (anything) to:
linfrew@aol.com
Thanks
G.

You give me too much credit, friend. I simply passed along an idea I had, and the feedback you gave me in exchange, plus the opportunity to play, more than make up for it.
I, for one, am quite ready!

Thanks googlie for the info
Since I tend not to fiddle with anything with respect to the game files, I think I will just do the necessary downloads at home and accept that this game will only be played from there. I should not be playing that much at work anyway . My turn-around will be a little slower than in my other games but still same-day.

Welcome, everyone.
So I'm in another game with Flubber. And I've played several ones with Flotax outside Apolyton...
Anyway, just to get this right :
The only way to win is
a) to wipe everyone else off the face off Planet or accept their submission
b) to call the Battlefleet and that happens by having 6 bases size 10 and building the Subspace Generator in each of them
This seems to imply that the Usurper factions cannot win by Transcendence, correct?

That is correct - I have turned transcendence off as a victory condition (to leave it on would give them 3 ways to win, versus the Caretakers 2)
Scenario is built, and 2101 waiting to be sent (but I am still waiting for 2 e-mail addresses - those of:
radman
Flotax
As soon as I have them, The Battle for Manifold 7 can commence
