New Idea for Patch (about diplomacy)
It must be possible to negotiate about the time your agreement will exist. Right now it's 20.
Keep it 20, but leave a way to make it 10, 30, 100..... whatever.
A 2nd new option could be that you can negotiate with the AI to break open a current agreement. If you can't agree on this with the AI (or the other MP (wishfull thinking)) the agreement stays the same (or you start a war)
that could really improve diplomacy (Even more, since it's great already )

Seconded (or thirded) - the agreement term should be negotiable.

You are so anti-america that having a conversation with you would be poinless. You may or maynot feel you are an enemy of the United States, I don't care either way. However if I still worked for the Goverment I would turn over your e-mail address to my bosses and what ever happen, happens.

it could result in a pact by a big civ with a small civ in which the big civ agrees not to crush the small one if it agrees to pay 100 for an infinite number of turns.
The small civ could get out of the tax-pact by after a specific time growing big enough to tell the big empire "**** you, we cease to pay, what are you going to do about it"
Then the big empire could say "ack, well....so be it" or "What the heck, we're going to crush you anyway"
those are scenarios that really happened in the past !
In mp games those would be REALLY cool !

An idea I fully support, yet it should not be the end of diplomacy changes.

How about some sort of screen where you can go to see what treaties/pacts you have, with whom, and for how long WITHOUT having to actually call up each leader?
I know this idea has been mentioned before, but is still valid, IMHO.

A diplomacy screen designed to scale based on the number of opponents? Nah, if we mentioned it 6 months before release and it didn't get done it'll never happen now

I would REALLY like to see you being able to negotiate yourself OUT of a trade embargo situation!
(i.e. I'll give you espionage + 25 gold/turn if you will start trading with me again)

Oh I whole-heartedly agree. I really get annoyed with the 20 turn limit for things like trade, because the AI cancels the trade at exactly 20 turns only to demand MORE from me- hey bastards I thought trade was supposed to benefit both of us, not just YOU Especially when you play with 16 civs like me!
That's another thing that I wish would be changed. It really encourages the Warmonger if the civ you want to trade with to get oil keeps inflating his prices by 1000% every 20 turns! (And lemme tell you, this is the reason I'm going to war now... I'm playing 16 civs, Huge map, and amazingly we were all peaceful for 100's of years! seriosuly, no wars since I kicked the Aztecs off *MY* island (think Braveheart). Every civ is on such great terms with eachother but then modern age rolls around and no oil on my continent... uh oh! I notice my Gracious friend Germany has 5 of it so I quickly work out a really good deal (for me at least) to get oil for 10 gold/turn. (it's what HE offered) But, 20 turns later, my gracious friend wont continue, and this time demands 80 gold/turn. Still a fair deal considered it IS oil... but what a price jack! You thought OPEC was bad! And then another 20 turns roll by, cancels again, this time he wants 143 gold/turn PLUS ROCKETRY! Now I'm mad! I declared war and now the whole world is in shambles, everyone decalred war on eachother, and every civ easily has at least 200 units (yes my end of turns require me to go make a sandwich and read a paper before I can continue with my P2 450 ) Hey, I had to get my oil... and 143 gold / turn wasn't getting too high... imagine what he'd ask for in another 20 turns? Anyway, sorry for going off track!
