Got it - doesn't work
I wish I had looked at the Civ3-Help forum to see the pain others have had.
Anyway, got the thing Tuesday, 13th. Spent 4 hours updating drivers etc still cannot get it to execute - then I find out I have a snowflakes change in hell of getting it going with a NVIDIA TNT2 video card.
I paid $110 for a box.
This is why warez exist - unscrupulous companies (their help support is non-existent, I spent a few STD dollars ringing the states getting nowhere)
I suspect Dan and Sid released this piece of, after paying themselves a bonus the month before...looks like OneTel
hope they choke on their caviar

Computer requirements
Thanks for the warning. I'm in the market for a computer so I can play Civ3. I was shocked (and relieved) to read your post, especially considering that some of the ads I was considering specified the very video card you mentioned. Thanks again for being specific. Does anyone else have any hardware conflicts? For uninitiates like myself, when I shop for computer parts, I don't normally know what equates to "Oh, this means it is (not) compatible with DirectX 8, etc."

Maccabee2, check Apolyton Forum Civ3-Help for know compatibility issue, know bugs and some workaround for graphic trouble (an older Nvidia driver solve some trouble added by the latest Detonator release, as far as I have read) and a refreshing bad autosetting (ending in a black screen) can be managed editing an INI file.
Galah, I hope it can help you too, until the deserved patch.

Thanks, Admiral, for your help. I'll let you know what system I wind up getting, and its specs. (Can't afford cutting edge; sailors don't make much.)
Good luck, Galah. Keep us posted as to whatever you find, please. It does help.

Surely you can take the game back for a refund Galah? I know in Brisbane you cannot take a game back because you merely dislike it, but if it doesn't work or it is incompatible with your system within reason you can.
Bkeela.
