Ode to Civ III
Its all rather…

Enemy bombers arrive from afar.
My fighters wait for them to come into range,
but Biggles is well below par.
No hits, not a scratch, Its all rather strange

Trouble at the edge of the empire I’m told
Republic, Democracy even Courthouse not feared
With just one shield, and only one gold,
it must be corruption, but its all rather weird

Enemy transports loaded with tanks.
Getting close to my coast, they’re awfully near.
I send out my subs to end thier pranks
They’re sunk by a Frigate, its all rather queer.

Oi, settler, get out of my territory again
My borders mean nothing, it’s plain
Of course, he retreats as compliance they feign
He’ll be back., but its all rather a pain

Victory! The enemy capital falls at last,
My force sets up camp, and prays to their god
But wait, the citizens revolt, and blast,
my glorious army is gone, its all rather odd

Ask Hitler, Stalin, Ceasar, Alexander the Great how easy it is to conquer the world without fearing corruption, scientific backwards civilians, revolting cities and all that !

I'm sure they'll agree with you that conquering the world is all a peace of cake.

Again, civ3 is an empire managing game, not a world conquest game. But if you're a REAL good empire manager you can conquer the world without razing it. Fortunately it never happened in history that such a smart person tried.

Pherhaps the smart people don't want to conquer the world.

I am doing fine as an empire manager and im conquering the world! of course i set the corruption lower in the editor using the world sizes tab ( ) but even before that i was doing fine with the forbidden palace built by a great leader to avoid taking up 300 turns... admittedly, i had a good map layout, a big fat piece of land to be my home base, and the other 3 civs besides the 3 i conquered on another island.

i doubt any of those guys managed to conquer a considerable part of the earth.. just capture a few neighboring countries, hold for (a couple of) years and then collapse..

Just a harmless bit of fun chaps.

It's just a game you know, not real or anything.

Peace

How strange, someone tore the chapter about the polish cavalry beating the german tanks out of my history book.

What I mean is that comparing Civ to RL...is umm ?

All that matters is game balance and ENJOYMENT and in my world corruption being realistic or not is nothing but grief so I want to be able to adjust it.

Props to this * fat * poem. Very amusing.

A tip: forget about sending submarines to fend off enemy fleets. The key is ranged bombardment. I have succesfully blasted stacks of Battleships back to their harbors to heal with cheap artillery. Very entertaining. Help against Carriers/transport too. *Poof* Invasion cancelled. =]

Well I both agree and disagree. Yes, it is a game. No it's not daft to compare it to RealLife.
Why? Because every game is an abstraction, but some games do relate more than others to the real world.

Example: Nobody is complaining about the King-piece in chess only having one move saying; "Why does that stupid King have only one move? Is he fat, he doesn't look fat. In fact "he" doesn't look much like a king at all!"

It's all about making a believeable universe. If you call your goverment concept Communism, it should somehow reflect people's general concept of what communism is. All executed within the games own terms.

This is just my thoughts on a subject I've been thinking a little about. If anyone would care to discuss it, feel free to reply.

Seems with a city of three or greater AI nationalities, its a mistake to leave the city to grow on its own. I've had success adding workers quickly to get a 30%-50% ratio to my nationality. That and minimum four ground for small cities, eight ground for large garrison for ten plus turns.

Final note is that this works if you have a decent culture. Figure if my culture is primitive, I'd raze the city anyway. Hate those snotty think they are better then me nations.

Fancy Salami that's pretty much what I think too, you just put it in better words.

What I meant is that saying corruption is THIS bad in real life so it should be exactly as bad in CIV3 is daft ( in your own word if it breaks the balance or ups the game grief.
