Golden Age?
How many golden ages can a civ have? Haven't had the chance to play the game yet, and I wonder...

You only get one. It's triggered either by a battle won using the Civ's UU, or by building a Great Wonder that relates to the type of Civ you have (Commercial, Militaristic, Etc.) It doesn't always trigger, but may.

What exactly does it do?
Just jump you to the next era? I had it happen to me once, and it appeared I went into the next era, but it was kinda pointless because I still had to research my techs that were in the previous era...
Did I miss something?

No, during a Golden Age your production receives a boost. Also your workers are somewhat faster, I think. You get into the next era when you research all necessary advances of that age. There are some optional advances (like Monarchy or Democracy), which you don't have to research to move on to the next age. Those advances have a little symbol in the upper corner. You can still research them, when you've got into the next era.

Ah, thank you. It must have just been odd timing. I had a Golden Age and then near the same time went to the next tech level but I hadn't gotten monarchy yet, so I had to go back and yadda yadda yadda, I was confused. Thanks.

Golden age has nice effects, but I 'm a bit dissapointed that it comes only once per civ...

I wish it would stop happening in Ancient Times. When I play as the Americans I don't expect it to happen until 1950 dagnabbit!

I agree. I built the Collosis (as Brit) and went into a GA. It would be nice if it at least waited for the same era as your Unique Unit, then it would feel like it meant something other than a random event.
