It's fun, but Its Modified Civ2
After playing several games of Civilization 3, till the end, I have realized that it is still Civ2. At first I was delighted with the new features like culture and resources. But other than that, its really the same game with a few simple additions to diplomacy, a more agressive AI (by no means smarter) and new graphics. When I play it, it is fun, but I don't play into the wee hours. I'll play for maybe 30 minutes-hour. Then I get tired of playing Civ2 and go to some other game.
