Seems fine now that "Prince" is "Regent"
Call me silly and slap me with a fish, but I swear my medium level difficulty was "Prince" for about a week and then changed to "Regent". When I played the "Prince" level, the computer players won almost every battle, even against great odds (ie: a regular warrior defeated my entire army of 3 veteran spearmen, a regular archer took over my city with population 6 gaurded by an elite archer, etc). One day I decided to try again and immediately noticed that the middle level was "Regent". Since that time, the games have seemed completely fair and always within the bounds of the odds set by the attack/defend values.
I'm enjoying the game much more now, but still haven't won at "Regent" level.

Perhaps "Regent" should be called "The difficulty level formerly known as Prince"

In other words that regent is easier than Prince!!
I'll find it more difficult than Prince. I usually played king in Civ2.
Compare king with regent = same difficulty !!
