A challenge to Firaxis: defend your game!
Here's the idea: Apolyton selects two posters to discuss/debate a few selected aspects of the game with someone from Firaxis who is not working on the patch. Basically he or she would give their rationales and maybe explain why our requests are not feasible.
I know there is a FAQ thread, but this would be more in-depth and would involve Firaxis. I also know that the designers do not owe us this, but they may want a chance to respond. Besides, we deserve something for spending so much time on the beta test.
The posters should be people who have consistently made thoughtful critiques. The topics should not be bugs, obvious screw-ups (like the map), or matters where we know they just ran out of time (MP). Only those three could access the thread and it would stay at the top.
I nominate Venger and jimmytrick, and refuse in advance any for myself (since I haven't played the game nearly enough). Seems like there are some other good ones out there whose names escape me.
The topics that stand out to me are combat, corruption (which may be a screw-up) and resources/outposts.
Actually, the best way to do this would be assign a topic to a poster; that way we could have 4 and keep the discussion managable.
If management makes this happen I will pledge to not say anything negative about the game. I urge others to do likewise.

Perhaps we can delete the Apolyton feature that would force you to read it.

If I get either CTP1 or 2, which should it be?
If I get one of Civ3, CIV2MGE, CTP1, CTP2 or SMAC, which should it be?
I'm experienced with Civ2.

How about:
A Challenge to Firaxis, Explain Your Game!
Where Firaxis employees with access to the real data (NOT whomever wrote the manual) actually give us the information we should have about corruption, combat, science, city revolution, effects of railroads, etc.?
I agree it would be very nice to have them discuss why they did some of the things they chose, but I would personally settle for know exactly what it was that they did!
As it is the last two weeks in the strategy forums have been spent conducting various tests to try and determine what the rules of CivIII really are. Both the manual and the Civilopedia have been conclusively proven wrong in many, many places. In other areas there is just no information at all, not even the token incorrect information.

-dont worry about G{'s spam- he got toaround 100 posts in one month earlier
I wont report it- you dont complian (and I report threads ALL the time )
---
on topic: this would be a good ida, nc. I am not quite sure who the posters are- but if Firaxis would answer their questions coherently, getting the game may be a good idea.

Sorry, I just "reacted". Let me at least do you the courtesy of telling you why I feel that way.
1. It just sounds like more of the stuff on these boards...which is dragging on and on. Do you really want to hear another debate about the combat system?
2. We don't even have a common front to present to Firaxis in a debate.
3. And there is no way they're going to participate in something like that and (I think) it would be a waste of their time to do so.
If you want to dream of such an event and talk about it, feel free...I won't rain on the parade any more (unless specifically asked).

I think it would be fundamentally different, unless they are posting on a thread I've missed. Of course, that difference is why this will probably never happen. However, there would have been a 100% chance of failure had I not asked.
