Diplomacy/Luxury Bug - Designers Please Read
I believe I have discovered a bug with the trading options.
Sometimes, when I ADD a luxury item to a proposed trade, my advisor says the deal goes from being almost there or even acceptable TO "they would never accept such a deal." This has to be a bug, b/c why would my adding something make the trade less desirable for them?
Any comments are welcome, but this definitely sounds like something for a patch!

The AI doesn't like you trading your resources or luxuries for something you get instantly like a lump sum of money or technology. I guess they don't trust you not to go to war with them later on and not have to fulfill your end of the bargain. The AI, though, doesn't mind if it is trading a certain amount of gold per turn in exchange for resources or luxuries, because no one benefits if war is declared.

Good point, and that explains a lot of something else I was wondering (why the AI will pay so highly per turn) but it still doesn't explain this bug.
I already had a successful trade on the table at one point and threw in a luxury out of curiosity and it nixed it. Also, even if the AI wasn't fond of a luxury item for an immediate item, i can't imagine gonig from "we are almost there" to "never".

You could go to www.firaxis.com and report the bug (if it is one).
Just use the game feedback form.

actually, there is some kind of bug with trading. I had a deal going with the chinese, well if i just accepted it at least. I decided to see what i could do. So when trading for oil, going from almost there, add a city of mine, they all of a sudden won't accept the deal ever. Add all my cities, they would control one hell of a lot. They won't accept the deal.. Something is wrong with tading if the computer wouldn't take all of my cities for oil...

The computer was probably wise not to accept your city. If you have any culture at all the computer is probably going to have a lot of headaches with revolts and civil disorder if your city suddenly belongs to him. Not to mention the possibility of the city returning to your ownership after a few turns.
