Non militaristic strategy?

Anyone have any good non millitaristic strategies?

Best i know of is to stay on top by pure trading. Will this work on deiety?

Yes, in a deity game I had control of 3 good sets of luxuries and was able to trade myself to a peaceful spaceship win. For more details, see my thread "1730 launch in Deity", posted about a week ago. Doing it this way was much more of a challenge than by using strategies based on an early military rush.
