Minor Troop/Ship Loading Irritation
Is it me, or can you not order troops from a far away city, by rail, directly on to a ship next to port. Right? You have to order the troops to the nearby port and then you have to manually move them on to the ship. Civ 2 never had that problem did it? Very weird pathing problem.

You're right that that's how it works. They board only from an adjacent tile. I can't remember how Civ2 worked with that. But I seem to recall similarly going "huh?".

It definitely is different from Civ3. I guess it's to stop you from accidentally making a unit board a ship (and thereby end its turn).
That's not a problem I particularly suffered from in Civ2, though!

They've also changed combat. In Civ2, you could attack a unit from several squares away by clicking it. In Civ3, you have to move adjacent to the unit and then attack. I agree with that change - in Civ2, I did occasionally attack something by mistake (me am hamfisted!).

Good points. I didn't realize it was to protect us from ourselves. I can live with that!

When a unit is in a city you'll find one of its orders is "load onto ship", quite useful.
