Patch Update
Hey guys. I wanted to drop you a line about the upcoming patch. We've sent it off to testing and baring any unforeseen problems it should be available some time next week. That is not a promise that it WILL be available next week however, since any number of things can cause a reset. We're on v1.14f right now, it being the 7th patch we've submitted to testing, only to find showstoppers.
Just keeping you in the loop.
Jeff

Will old saves work?
Does anyone know if your old saves will work after the patch is applied?

Re: Patch Update
Oh, and any info on what actually made it into the patch would also be nice

Thanks, Jeff! Though some people on these boards are just complaining, I'd like to speek for myself and say that I LOVE Civ 3 -- as soon as some of those bugs are patched out, I'll just love it even more! Thank you so much for keeping us up to date -- personally, that's all I really want from Faraxis (keeping us up to date, answers to some of our questions, and (of course) the patch itself ). Keep up the good work, and good luck with the testing!

Old saves should be backwards compatible, as should old BIC files.

Dan...pls look at our list of what we deem are "needed fixes"...no one is expecting miracles.... but forums of this nature are going to be your best bet in fixing a bugged game.....
if you fix early mistakes the community will feel like they have been heard and will likely be less critical of this game you have put out...
the potential is here, now lets polish up this rough little diamond you have created

Thanks Jeff, as you can tell we all look forward to the tweaks to the game.
To those who are giving a list of what you want to see fixed...most likely they have already been considered, or are under eval. I'm sure Jeff and company appreciate all the feedback they get, and do understand that not everything can be fixed at once....
As for multiplayer, that sounds more like an "Add-On" feature we will see rather than a patch.
Just my 1.5 cents (er I mean shields)

Jeff,
Please do not do this again. You have basically buzzed us out of pure evil mischief.
You say you have sent out a patch for testing and lead us to believe that it will be right out. Then you stick in the small print the fact that your last seven attempts to patch this game failed miserably.
Do you and your wife wear leather undies?
And of course, you fail to mention any single one thing that this alleged patch might allegedly fix. Swell.
Brillant man.
My suggestion is that if this is the best that you can do to keep us in the loop, you should keep your mouth shut.
Or, as is the usual case, firmly attached to the hindquarters of the only true gaming god. Snicker.
Have a nice day.

Things I would love to see in a patch
More customisation, perhaps? This could add immensely to the replay value.
Luxury resource distribution
[ ] Clumped (one or two large groups, 5-8 in each, score bonus)
[ ] Clustered (three or four medium groups, 3-4 in each)
[ ] Scattered (Five or six groups, 1-2 in each, score penalty)
Strategic resource distribution
[ ] Clumped (score bonus)
[ ] Clustered
[ ] Scattered (score penalty)
Strategic resource rarity
[ ] Common (1.5 of each per civ, score penalty)
[ ] Normal (1 of each per civ)
[ ] Scarce (0.75 per civ, score bonus)
Minor tribes
[ ] Common (score penalty)
[ ] Normal
[ ] Scarce (score bonus)
Corruption levels
[ ] Petty (score penalty)
[ ] Larcenous
[ ] Organised (score bonus)
