Russell: You Were Dead-On, Man! Nice Work!
Back in May you said the following:
Quote:
|
Shopping Mall Tycoon or perhaps SimMall or even Mall Manager. With the popularity of shopping malls, it beats me why, to the best of my knowledge, no game has ever been made with this theme. Baffling. One of life's great mysteries.

Today, I give you this:
Mall Tycoon announced: http://gamespot.com/gamespot/stories...827812,00.html
Excellent, sir.

Looks just as lame as monopoly tycoon. (or any of the other so-called tycoon games you see these days)
Give me a real tycoon - one made by Chris Sawyer.

Did they steal the idea off me?
Yeah, I just read a few minutes ago about Mall Tycoon being announced at http://www.avault.com/news/displayne...11282001-91651. In fact, I was about to post a thread on it when I noticed my own old thread had been kick-started again. I feel real good right now.
What I'm wondering is, did they steal the idea off me or did they come up with it themselves? It depends on whether or not they browse these forums I guess. They'd never admit it if they did though 'cos otherwise they'd have to pay me.
I'd also almost given up on the idea, feeling it'd virtually been done when I saw The Sims - Hot Date. The downtown area is getting pretty close to this kind of thing, though it's from the perspective of the customers rather than the business side.
I've had a look at the screenshots and it looks just pretty much what I envisioned. It looks like they've been working on it for a while. I assume you can set individual retail prices at each store. Again, isn't it amazing noone has done this one before! I'm a man ahead of my time!
So, party on!
By the way Yin, thanks for the compliment.

Well, I have Sim Golf and you have Mall Tycoon! What can we say? We have our hands on the pulse of the industry. No. In fact, the industry DEPENDS on us for ideas! LOL!
Seriously, who knows if they stole your idea. I don't recall when they said they started development, but isn't it to be released in a few months? Anyway, doesn't matter.
Great work!

They said that it was going to be released in January 2002 (according to avault) and by the looks of the screenshots, I'd say it's been in devlopment for several months. It's conceviably possible that they started on or after May which is when my suggestion was first posted.

Perhaps we should use this as a proof of that the people who make games spy on Apolyton ...

It's not a series.
It's just a stream of crapy rip-offs.

I'm tempted to try to repeat the successes of yin and Russell. Will I fail? Probably.
I predict that they'll announce Tycoon Tycoon at some point.*
* 'at some point'= at any point in time in this or any other parallel universe
Actually, I don't know how a "Tycoon Tycoon" game would work. Still, we can start mercilessly badgering the game companies to get them to listen to our ideas.

Tycoon Tycoon would be a game about how to make a game about Tycoon Tycoon. And it will spark such philosophical debates that even the great question of: Which came first? The chicken or the egg? will pale in comparison.
Indeed, Tycoon Tycoon will unleash such intellectual fervor that it might well come to mark a watershed moment in human history.

Well, I see this type of game has eventually reached space - I was in a computer store the other day and saw - "Moon Tycoon".
Have they no shame?
Well, ladies and germs, it's the fall of western civilization as we know it. . .

If they're watching...
Moon Tycoon looks more than a little suspiciously like Fragile Allegiance, a game from a few years ago. Similar graphics and gameplay. Same people I'm sure.
Since we're hoping the developers are reading this, the big idea I'd like to see is TV Tycoon. Let's see if someone announces that then in a few days.
