Pump up the volume. Did you build all of the science improvements available such as Libs, unversities when you get them. Wonders that help such as Great Lib, Copernicous, Newton? Of course the other boost are to have cities with specialist science workers. Lots of cities each kicking in a bit. Move that slider to a higher level for science.

Build roads on all city radius squares - this adds to commerse and therefore to research!

well,if you are the most advanced, then set your science as low as possible.Build lots of your best units.Rush them with gold.

with only three cities your going to be in rough..time is likely your worst enemy ....if you do'nt keep the ai happy, you will be squashed.....

I had a game like that (except I had more cities)... I just played and lost off histograph (was most powerful Civ at the time, but hadn't been for most of the game). Still, I don't know how possible it is, but if you want to win, you might try for a diplo. victory (you'll have to build the UN)... that seems to be the most possible in your situation, if you can push your science enough.

My last sentence is the answer. You must have more cities. More beakers are required for new tech as you go along.

What map size and level are you playing on? And what have you been setting your science slider (how many turns per tech) to?

3 cities is the reason. If you have 30 cities, science is much faster (hmmm, wonder why).

actually i think it might have something to do with the level ive played several games on cheiftan and get to the final year on a few and have rarely made it past the industrial advances
i was way ahead in techs in all of them games and i think that is part of the problem after the first 10 or so techs none of the other civs ever have anything you dont therefore you never get to trade with them or reap the benefits of the great library
im not sure cause i havent had the time to play the game on a higher level yet but i would imagine that in a well balanced game you only research somewhere between 2/3 and 3/4 of your techs and trade for the rest
can anybody who plays on the higher levels tell me if that seems right
also the number of cities isnt helping you either but i think thats only part of the problem
