A "group/stay together" unit feature would be nice
I know we can't group em for combat but it would be nice if we could group units together for movement. I'm getting tired of losing artillery because I forgot to move the infantry that were protecting them. If the escorts are fortified, you aren't prompted to move them when you are prompted to move the arty. Its also tedious moving say 10 cannon or 5 workers to the same square one by one.
Could this be patched?

It would be nice, yes. a simple script to allow you to group up to say, 10 units to move together.
it would indeed be nice.

Yes I agree, a feature like that would be very nice. I thought civ3 would get away from tedious unit micromanagment.

In addition to above:
One shouldnt have to relocate airplanes and/or RR-moving land-units, one unit at a time, draging the map back-and-forth.
Why not activate several selected units in one go - then, with help of a special new command-button, having them all instantly and simultaneously "beamed over" to this or that target-city, or target RR-square?

Specific suggestions on the topic
1. Borrow from RTS the ability to create groups and assign them numbers using CTRL-1... CTL-9. Then you can select them with the numbers from the keyboard (which are not used). The group should move as fast as its slowest member and be defended (in case of attack) by its best defender (just like a normal stack).
2. Also borrow from RTS the ability to set rally points for units. It should apply ONLY to units NOT fortified in a city at the END of a turn (when the unit has not moved for a turn i.e. has all movement points available). That way your garrisoned units will not move and you have a chance to override the rally point by moving the unit before the end of the turn.
3. THIS ONE IS A LONG SHOT! I would like to see (maybe in expansion pack?) the ability to set patrol points for sea/land units. Actually, even 1 patrol point would be of great assistance.

I think...
I think free food for a lifetime would be nice, some things just don't happen. At least not immediately.
