Is 1st patch still good for Win98/ME?
I went to Gamespot to see if they had the patch yet. They seemed to indicate that the first patch was ok except for XP and 2000.

So what is the verdict? I have the 1st patch downloaded to my WinME. Should I get the 2nd patch and overwrite this 1st patch?

And why doesn't www.Civ3.com have the latest patch?

Shall I just keep this first patch and see if there will be more things to come with patches?

Yeah, that is precisely my doubt.

I have been reading that people are having various problems with the patch (graphical glitches, crashes...) and I would not like to have to reinstall the game because of this.

Should I install the 1st patch?

you should definitely install the second patch

i have win ME and after installing the first patch i had various problems-foreign advisor screen lines missing, graphical glitches etc etc-

however after installing the second patch everything! works fine.

download it from the apolyton server
it will automatically uninstall the first patch the first time you run it.
run it again and it will install itself.

I ran it only once. In the course of running, it prompted me whether it should delete the old file, and I responded yes. Is that what you meant by running twice?

Jeff,
Do people who have already downloaded and applied the patch need to redownload/reapply if we're not running Win 2k/XP? Or is it just an installer change...

Thanks for all your hard work!

You might as well, but there isn't a rush. The difference between the two exe's are incredibly small, which is why the diffing program didn't catch it (same size pre-safedisc). One thing to keep in mind is that when you run the updated patch, it will uninstall the other one. Let it do it's thing and then run the patch again.

Jeff
Later, I found out that the last line means you run the new patch TWICE -- the first time, it uninstalls the old-new one, and the second time, it does the actual install.

See http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...304#post654994 if you want to see it yourself.

oh yes, http://www.civ3.com is supposed to have the new patch now, though I can't say I've checked myself... see the thread I mentioned in my last post.

I installed the newer 1.16f patch last night and played for about 12 hours straight without any problems.

Yep. Civ3 site now is updated with the updated patch.

I suppose my patience should be updated either...
