Maybe this question has been asked before but...
Maybe this question has been asked before but I do not want to have to dig through threads to find out, after all, isnt' this what posting a new topic is all about? Here's my question: Is CivIII going to be Turn Based or Real Time? What are your personal preferences?

Oh boy, here we go again. I don't think it is decided by Firaxis, probably going to be TB, but theres a few of us who wouldn't mind some RT stuff, but the majority despise RT and anything to do with it. I wouldn't mind seeing some RT stuff, oh god here comes the mob again, no no no! Linching is against the law, I think, I hope, aaaaaahhhhhhhh

RTCiv3... wouldn't be much room for many features then..
Although them Sim games are RT and are playable.. I don't think that Civ should stay TB

Hopefully, any thoughts of a real time Civ3 was purged the first day of brainstorming.

I thought that was why Brian Reynolds left Firaxis - he wanted to work on an RT game. If Civ 3 was going RT wouldn't he have stayed?

Maybe Sid stole all the Beer and cut the TV in the lounge?? or maybe Sid is an ass??
From what I've heard Brian leaving was IMHO probably a combo of Civ is boring to make, inner turmoil, wanting to get out on his own.
Maybe some tips from RT stuff but a TB game, I wouldn't doubt seeing some RT stuff with possibly in the war department, with the civil war games and all.
I don't want a RT game either, but pure TB might not be as fun as TB with a tinny pinch of RT.

Empress, I would be highly, highly surprised if it's RTS. I don't think you've got anything to worry about there. I guess it's possible that there will be an element of it, but personally, I'm not sure that I want it at all. I like to have control!

Damn it, Civ is intended for all us old farts with no reflexes for playing real time games. I need time to make decisions and move that mouse around. The bursitous slows me down. And I used to have to walk to school through 10 feet (~3m) of snow, uphill, both ways...
Don't we sound like a bunch of whiners?

Spekter, you're spot on with the fast reflexes comment. I don't have a $200 ultra-fast responce mouse to play FPS or even a RTS, so civ3 had better be a (very good) turn based game...

Certainly RTS would make multi-player games go faster, although personally I think simultanious (sp?) turns would be a better solution.
Check out Warlords battlecry for an example of a good TBS turn into a bad RTS.
IMO TBS 4EVER

There are some problems with simultaneous turns. How do you do combat? How do you play by email? How do you incorporate everyones moves into the next turn? Don't get me wrong; if you could do it, you would eliminate a lot of the waiting for others to finish their turn. I just don't think it's doable.

not to mention, would st take up more bandwidth? I mean, I can only connect, on average, at 19.2 as it is!

th game should be created for classical turnbase (if it has the simul option ala alpha that would be fine)
there are already enough good rts's out there, we need to keep our good tbs's, there is a different type of strategy involved
