Which would make the better civ?
Out of curiosity (despite what it did to the cat), I'm starting a poll to see what everyone thinks would make the better civ for game mods.

I would espescially look after a mod based on Tolkien or Frank Herbert's Dune. Or someone with a nice litteral mind that would build something that's not candies.

Very good idea! Tokien & Herbert are very good for building a lot of background and developement into their works. Have you read any of Robert Jordan's works?

Other
I voted for "other", and you said to post an explanation. Guess mine is semi-fictional. I spent the first 8 years of my life in Pennsylvania, so I play as the Sylvanian civ. City names are taken from towns/roads/rivers/landmarks/people/mountains in Pennsylvania. Leader names are taken from my male ancestors, plus my son. I replaced the Iroqouis in the civ3mod.bic file to include this civ.

I would be happier with this poll if multiple selections would be allowed I mean, it is difficult to say that civ would be better only with one type of civs... The same goes for mods, I like historical, but also scifi...

Hmm, all of them, except current, alternate reality and alien/futuristic civs.
But I voted for historic.

Allternate reality civs.
I would like to have scenarios that are similar but not quite the same as reality.
A three way Cold Wa, set in 1960, between the 3rd Reich, the USSR and USA would be interesting.

I voted Other, as I often play as a civ that I make up (much like quasar1011). For example, i'm in a game of civ2 (civ3 doesn't run on my work computer, too slow) as the K'ta Linieri. It would be cool to be able to make up entirely ficticious civs

Now 54% thinks historic civs should be in...
Then why people keep saying civ isn't about history?

I'd say historic AND current civs (thus I didn't vote at all)

Current civs are the best - it's fun to play as your home country and lead it to crush the world.
In my games, I changed the Iroquois to Canadians, named all my Great Leaders after hockey players and called the Mounted Warriors the Mounties. I also made them Militaristic and Religious, for the sole reason that Canada is neither.
It's a blast.
