Firaxis and "The List"
I've read through the list of suggestions for Firaxis for Civ3. There are many good ideas and such in there, and I'm just wondering if Firaxis is really taking those ideas into consideration. Is there a thread somewhere, or a website I could visit that could give me info on some of the ideas they actually plan on integrating into the game? Thanks for any help.

There are been few posts about Firaxis acknowledge of "The List", but some were sent before most of the Civ III development team left Firaxis.

AFAIK they tell that CIV III will have better trade and diplomacy, better implementation of "army" concept (I suppose they mean better coordinated stacked units) with the introdution of the "General" unit.

They also wrote that Minor nations will be added to the actual civilizations. No explain about roles and limits that will differ the two kind.

The graphical engine will NOT be the same of SMAC: they throw it away and started to work on another one from scratch.

May be I'm missing something, but that's more or less everything we know for sure.

Yeah, what's become of "the list"?

Come on Firaxis, I know you're watching...
I'm sure you guys can at least acknowledge that you're taking it into account! And if the new people to the team hasn't read it, well, read it ASAP! (Though I have to admit I can't find where it is now)

I must have missed all this info, Adm. Naismith, where did you find it? I saw the list in the Civ3 section of this site, sounds interesting. I'm sorry I missed it.

UltraSonix, if you are looking for the last version of "The list" in HTML/DOC format it's not available (AFAIK).

You can look and check it anyway thru the post ALL LIST/SUMMARY LINKS.

Sorry Ken, I'm afraid I can't remember the exact thread . I suppose it started on another topic, than a Firaxian jump in with info.

If you have spare time, try to search for it using the Civ 3 search engine.

May be someone else has better memory than me to sort it out the right post.

About the graphics format-

OK, I gather that we have limited info on Firaxis' actual plans, but what I'm most concerned about is how they do the graphics. This was address in the list, and I think apolytoners came out with a great suggestion. Build the game with 3d graphics like in most of the newer games, but allow gamers to customize the graphics with editable files. Microprose did this in ToT and it worked out great. I want to know if it will be the same for Civ3. If it is NOT, then I doubt I will even buy the game, since I got most of my enjoyment out of civ2 through customization.

I hope there are others who feel like I do, so Firaxis will realize what we the consumers want.

I agree with Archangel, that the game should ship with really good graphics (though not neccesarily 3d and requiring a NV25 or something to run). But then there should definitely be a system like in Civ2+ and SMAC where the graphics can be changed. But now perhaps the unit's graphics aren't in a simple gif but a directory of avi's.

Sorry for the late reply...I just got back from a business trip.

Looks like you got your answer, more or less. The latest word given to us was that "many" ideas from the list have already found their way into the game. But it would be a bit much to ask them to list it all since so much can and will change.

At any rate, I think we can all proudly say the list no doubt is helping to make a better Civ3.

Yeah, that's pretty satisfying, isn't it? Knowing that in some small way you might have made Civ3 a better game. And that's what we're all looking for, after all.

I think Firaxis will account some of the ideas we have, but most will only be used in a small way. Someone said a while back that we know that a lot of our ideas aren't going to make it in and we are just here to talk and explore our creative selves or something like that. I agree with that assumption, and have no problem with it.

1 funny thing I noticed is that whenever a Firaxian or whatever you call 'em posts about 5 new people post for the first time And they stay too! And the threads get so many more posts than the other ones. We're like hungry sharks and Firaxis post is a big hunk of fresh cow backstrap thrown into the pool.
