Trading???
When will this trading bug be fixed? I'm talking about the bug to have to pay 500 gold + World map + some invention...just to get their world map? It doesn't make any sence at all!!!

Whether or not it is a "bug" is a matter of opinion.
If the AI rates you as being superior, it will offer near-fair trades (e.g. World Map for World Map).
If the AI rates you as inferior or has a relatively large military/treasury then it will be more demanding. Most of the time whenever it makes you an "offer" it is ripping you off and will normally accept less.
Either the AI is doing well against you or you should call its bluff and try for a lower deal.
Remember that you can always make a counter-offer.

Same goes with equals, or with civs that you may whipped around a little. I think the AI considers trading maps (world or territory) as a potential act of war, since knowing the enemy's terrain is a big help in a war.

I managed to get a lot of money for my map... it depends how strong you are...
But giving a science tech to an AI and ask what they wan't to give... mostly they give World Map easily...

Well, there issues with the whole trading angle, right?
I mean, up comes the AI: She wants your world map in exchange for 3 gold.
You say "no" and you'd like to offer another deal.
You offer World Map + Incense + Technology + A happy smile in return for 4 gold.
AI says "NO"
You return to the original request of World Map for 3 gold.
AI says "NO"
WTH?

Trading Bugs
There seems to be a problem with the trading algorithms. I don't think the AI rechecks to see if a deal is equitable everytime. I have set up trades that were acceptable, added and removed an item, resulting in the trade that was acceptable to become unacceptable.
The AI never seems willing to trade resources or luxuries away for anything other than advances. Whatever routine it uses needs to be fixed to allow the AI to value trades offers that are clearly to its advantage. How hard would it be to make the AI realize that an offer of silk and gems that it does not have for a fur that it does have is to its advantage? (assuming 2 is better than 1. )

BTW - Why was unit trading taken out of the game?

I think what the AI was doing was bluffing. I've seen this happen to me too, only its when I'm dealing with a stronger civ.

If I try to make a counter offer they usually say no just for setting it one gold down in price, even though I got a higher score than the AI has.
I figured a way to get the game to turn, if I could get an invention they didn't have but wanted to pay for (with world map + gold). If I accepted that offer I could suddenly get maps + gold (even inventions) just for my new world map, even though the new map only showed little more than I knew before!
The trading with AI really needs to be repeared
