Has anyone ever won a UN victory?
I was prompted to ask this question by another recent thread.

I've never been able to win a UN victory - I usually suffer a humiliating loss. Has anyone won via the UN victory?

PS: Ok, now I know you can't use italics in topic titles

It was my very first victory. It was such a let-down that I turned it off. You get a message box. Whee.

Yes
I built the UN then put off an election until my closet rival declared war on me. I had a MP with every other Civ, and they all promptly declared war. I won by a landslide. It did feel like a cheesy win though. I too turn off UN option now in my games.

Of course! Wait until the other civs are all at war against each other before going for the UN.

...or bribe them

I have turned both UN and Space victory OFF, because they are simply too easy.

I did with ease. I wanted to try all the Victory types, so played a short game just for that. It was quite easy. I just signed a MPP with every civilization a couple turns before the UN was built. I won with a unanimous vote. Since then I have never played a game where UN victory was enabled. Kind of a worthless way to win IMNSHO.

The time I won, my best friend voted against me and my worst enemy voted for me. I have absolutely no idea how they figure out who to vote for. At least in SMAC you could "lobby" the other factions.

My first game... I built it, called for a vote, and won by a landslide (5-1 and 1 abstaining).

tech trader
I won a game in which I played the tech trader bit, getting moocho $$ each turn, and they were happy that I was such a nice guy. It was the second win type that I got, after my spaceship victory.

It took me 4 turns from start to finish to build a complete spaceship, which I thought was pretty cool. I had 2 cities building ICBMs that I converted (just chance, it wasn't planned that way), otherwise it would've been 6 turns. Regent level. That same game is close to a culture victory, but the endgame is so damn tedious I have not gotten back to it yet.

usually a tie for me
usually its always 3 votes for me..3 votes for some1 else and 2 abstains.

that said, this is how i lost my first and second game.

I used to click on this every turn...cause i figured no 1 would win.

But sometimes, for whatever reason, the majority goes for any1 but you.

I'm sure i coulda bribed them just before a real vote.

I figured both the Culture and UN victories would be sissy cheesefest wins, so turned them off...

Glad I did after hearing the confirmation in here...

I'd rather have the culture points keep going till the end of the game rather than an arbitrary X number wins, that gives you a chance to come from behind or get caught late...but to just stop at the X point finish line is WAY too easy.

How can someone NOT get a culture or spaceship or UN win?

And let's be honest, when was the last time the UN had ANY influence on ANYTHING? Korea?

Er, UN victory, yes, I turned that off quickly. Same with spaceship. But a culture win is *not* easy.

Not because 80k culture is hard to get. That part is easy, yes. The difficult part is ALSO having twice as much as the nearest AI. I have yet to get a culture win despite always playing a high culture (though balanced) game.

The culture win is much more (at difficulties higher than warlord, anyway) about doubling the AI culture lategame than it is about hitting "X number".

killing everyone esle is the best way to go about winning, playing civ isn't about being popular, thats why we play civ, we don't have anything better to do

My first victory was my first victory in Civ3. And because it was really strange (as mentioned before) the best friend turns against me while the worst enemy votes for me, I quicly turned it off...

The spaceship victory is boring, because of that I have never got to the future techs yet So I turned that one off too...

The Culture victory I had only had (and won) once and is really cool, pretty hard to get that much culture

Yes, it was my first ever victory. IMHO it's the easist way to win and also the cheesiest. I'll go so far to say that it's an extreme anti-climax and a poor representation to the talent over at Firaxis. It doesn't do them justice at all.

UN might be interesting for MP.
Last night I was able to bribe England enough to vote for me. They abstained in the first vote. But Moctezuma wouldn't budge.

It doesn't help to gete the MOST votes. You have to get a majority.
