Civ Units: How many privates per unit? - YOUR opinion!
This thread will concern largely the Civ 2 units. The question is: How many privates (individual soldiers) are there in a unit?
Of course the amount of soldiers will change with different units - for instance, one Battleship unit will equal one Battleship, but what about Triremes? For all that production, one trireme from that unit seems to be a bit of a rip-off...but to get more than one Carrier or AEGIS Cruiser or Battleship for 160 shiels seems too good a deal.
Same goes with land units - does the amount of soldiers change from your Phalanx to Mech. Inf.?
And for starters - how many planes in a Fighter or Bomber unit?

Ill answer your question Comrade Dan because I think I know the answer.
It depends totally on the scale of the game, doesn't it?
If you're playing a scenario where the entire map is of texas, the scale is much smaller than if on the world map. So, you would have to define it from a certain scale, and then gradate it up or down.

Unfortunately, AFAIK map scale is not taken into account by Civ. But since the turns are long (min. 1 year for a non-scenario) I'd say the units must be large, say a division each, or a legion in ancient combat.
A division may be too large, but it's certainly larger than a squad, can you imagine an entire nation only able to support 30-40 squads of riflemen? Maybe units are as small as a platoon, but I'll still vote for division.

Well, assuming that it is of the entire world, now you'll have to define each unit and do some research and define it on your own. All you can do is create some sort of standard to work with, I think, since the game is not really all that realistic.

(All population/(Divided by number of military units))/divided by ratio of civilian military population.
So suppose ratio of civilian to military population
20
Population 100 million 50 units
then
(100 million)/(50*20)
is .1 million
100000 privates.
This only for army units

In life the number of troops in a unit or division does not change much over the years Attillia the Hun was wandering round with an army of One Hundred Thousand, most countries do not have that now. So I think for the perpossses of the game they should say each have one hundred in each, a plane is one sqaudren or 12 planes and ships are just one ship that gets damaged.
