Civ 3 is a pretty good game, but if only things (especially combat) were more complex...

The game rates as an 8 for playability. You can have anything from very challenging game to easy game according to difficulty set which is good to introduce new people.
The graphics are a 7, some things are hard to see and the overall look lacks a final polish which is needed to the landscape tiles.
For support from Firaxis and Infogrames in keeping the patches and expansion packs coming (remember CTP was deserted by Activision) I give a solid 10. They are listening and putting in as much as possible - if you have tried even the slightest modding and fixing you know how dificult it is to get it to work as expected. Keep the ideas coming and Firaxis can keep the patches coming. For the new ideas I have a feeling that christmas 2003 will see CIV4 on the shelves.
For the fun factor, unexpected surprises the AI can throw at you, and one more turn syndrome suffered by so many (replayability) I give an 8.
So overall that is 33/40 so that is 8/10 thereabouts.

So you really think that the game is that below average? Average? If that's true, then you see no merit in this game, and you've been wasting your time trying to fix it. Right?

Good. We don't need whinies here. Those who post positive criticism (new ideas, different approaches, fixes) are always wellcomed. IMHO.

I like the game! I gave it a 9! of course somethings coud've been done better but on the other side nothing in life is perfect. I also would like to say that the support has been terrific and I will buy PTW and of course Civ 4.
So long...

I gave it an 9. My judgement was slightly affected by the fact I am a fanatic of the Civ series as well as cause of the grade 1 votes.
This game rocks-contrary to a whole mountain of games that come and go, Civ3 is the game that you can play for ages, before getting bored with it. Plus Firaxians have proven they care for the gamers more than any other company. And 1.29f patch rocks too!
218 voters-way to go.
PS: A new poll should be conducted after PtW comes out.

hehe. just looked at my old post.
Even with the patches my vote still stands at 8. Definately a good game. Just a few features I'd like to see improved/changed.

Btw, Coracle, where have you been? We have missed you for months. If it wasn't for you, I would have given it a 10.

I dont seem to be able to vote but Id give it 8.
The only thing that lets civ3 down is trade and democracy, not enough options and at times very unrealistic.

I'll give it a ten, it is probably in my top 5 games of all time. A truly wonderful game.

Gotta wonder about the votes for 1/2/3. Those should be going to games that do not even work, if you load them they crash regularly. I can not see any rational way to give it a 1 or 2?

Well I guess if you forked out hard-earned money for it, played it once or twice, found it boring and removed it from your hard-drive, you'd be entitled to give it a 1 or 2. But then you gotta wonder why they're coming to this forum.
I gave it 8 - it's not perfect, but I think of all the hours of enjoyment it's given me.

The average score so far is 7,54.
Without the 1s, 2s and 3s (which are unrational, biased votes of rage and anger, IMHO) the score is 7,91, so basically an 8.

I gave it a 7, because it's a good game, but it should have been better. This is biased by my expectations, I admit.
But it is still the best game at this moment. Maybe with the improvements ptw brings in, it will rise to an 8....
