No, no there's not.
For some reason I don't seem to have an arsenal of nukes to back my words

BAH HUMBUG!!!
The game I'm working on is really cool... It's called "The Earth Ruling Realization Program." You double click the icon and it "REALLY" lets you rule the world!!!
Just having a few minor bumps in the coding... and the FBI... and some really, really mad people from the Madagascarian military...
I RULE!

Kinda dances around the topic on tap shoes, doesn't it?
Of course there's a world beyond the computers, that's what we turn to the computers (and the net and the games) to get a temporary respite from.
What Civ is not: - A grognard wargame, focusing on the minutiae of historical accuracy
- A detailed simulator, focusing on painstakingly accurate models of physics, chemistry, climate, sociology, economics, and psychology
- A self-aware, creative, artificially intelligent life form
- An action/arcade game that rewards mindless reflexes
What Civ is: - A fun, immersive game, simple enough to play, complex enough to give you something to think about when you're not playing.

Agreed. With Civ3, one is always immersed in the underlying game story:

Not sure whats meant by a "spiritual discipline". Sports people might say that about their training. But then you might just reflect that what they are doing is a game.
Otherwise yes I agree.

Looking for something that isn't there, Libertarian? As the article says, it's probably not a healthy pursuit to get so involved in something that you dislike.
"Would you like to post another complaint?" (Click.) "Would you like to post another complaint?" (Click.) "Would you like to open your thesaurus in order to make your complaint unclear and useless to the average reader?" (Click.) "Would you like to pretend that this game is the only one that has the problems you're complaining about and hold up even more flawed games as an example of how Civ 3 is messed up?" (Click.) "Would you like it if the world was as easy to boss around as your computer?" (Click.) "Would you like to posture as an intellectual bully?" (Click.) "Would you like to evade the point and blame others for your problem?" (Click.) "Would you like to have a snit?" (CLICK!)
Seriously, if you don't like clicking the mouse, go watch a movie or something. Give that mouse a rest!

I thought life itself was a game, except you can't back up a turn or two and replay it.

I don't read the boards all that often, and thus, to me, Libertarian's post seems to be an attempt at humor. :hmm:
A WILDLY SUCCESSFUL attempt at humor.

I can remember playing Civ 1- and how much I learned about the development of the modern world- How every discovery was a military and civilian benefit- how different governments types affect the growth of a country. What an educational experience- Civ 1 should be required of all high school students- sometimes we forget the original thought.

way back in 19 odd 6
I discovered Civilization..... and my life has been complete ever since... and I know if I play hard enough, when I die, Sid Meyer will say, "welcome to my kingdom, my good and faithful servant" And I will spend the rest of my days praising him and his genius of strategy game creations.
