What games are you most looking forward to?
I'm really looking forward to Neverwinter Nights and Master of Orion 3.
By the way, I know next to nothing about most of those games listed, I just browsed through some of the latest reviews and picked ones I thought would be most popular.

Pretty much every first person shooter, except thief 3 and the tactical ones.
A few which I'm looking forward to but aren't on the list.
Morrowind.
Quake 4.
Medieval Total War.
Soldier of Fortune 2.
No One Lives Forever 2.
Sea Dogs 2.
With all those games I'll wait for the reviews and probably wait a while to purchase.
Of course the games I'm most looking forward to getting and aren't on the list are games which are already out.
Clive Barker's Undying.
Max Payne.
Return to Castle Wolfenstien.
Arcanum. If they patched it, haven't checked recently.
Trade Empires.

I'm looking forward to Morrowind, which I will most likely purchase (so long as it is not a bugfest like Daggerfall). I am also looking forward to Thief 3 and Deus Ex 2; both sequels to great games, and most likely worth the purchase (unless their stories turn hackneyed in the new versions).
The jury is still out on MOO3; it remains to be seen whether or not its improvements are significant enough to warrant me purchasing it.
I'm looking forward to Warcraft III, but probably won't buy it unless it is not the clickfest that Warcraft II and Starcraft turned out to be.
The jury is also out on Shadowbane. It looks interesting, but is probably going to fall into the same trap as many previous MMORPG's (a prime example being Everquest) of, well, not having a point to it. When I play an RPG I generally want the purpose to be something like "Kill the bad guy, save the world, and get the girl," not "Get to level 60."

Definitely buying Morrowind.
The problem with all MMORPG's is that if you have a recyclable plot then everyone gets to kill the dragon to rescue the girl and get the cloak of l33tness +20. If it is a once-only plot, then you log on one morning to find that the dragon spawned at 4:00am and was killed by l33tb0y and his gang of dudes at 4:00:08am because they'd worked out (or had leaked) the exact spawning point and had been camping it for nine hours. The refs try to find a way of making it sound like an epic struggle in the write up while you decide which dungeon to go level up in because you've missed this month's unique event. Neither way is particularly enjoyable. Both can succeed if you find yourself a good community of people to adventure with.

Defcon.
Just the idea of a realistic geopolitical game set in the present is a huge draw for me. I don't expect that Defcon will be perfect; any game with its scope will have problems, but as long it doesn't have really big problems it will likely be the game of the year for me.
BTW you forgot Republic which could also be very good.

Right now, XCOM: Freedom Ridge. Apocalyse was decent but not great. The frenchaised ones sucked.
MoO 3 is too complicated to pull off. Any game that looks too amazing to be true probably is.
Kautilya, haven't we concluded that less is more in these games?
MMORPG's: not real roleplaying. Just hack and slash.

Where is Heroes of Might and Magic IV?
Some of the games you mention (Age of Wonders, ...) were pretty crappy compared to the HoMM series.

I'm not looking forward to any of the games on the list, but I'm really getting antsy waiting for HOMM4. Whether the original poster likes it or not, it is the still the most popular fantasy strategy game, and has always had glowing reviews by critics in the past 3 versions. It's one of the few games that is keeping the sinking 3DO alive (New World Computing is the developer, 3DO is the publisher).
And I hated Age of Wonders. I tried and tried but couldn't get into it.

I just looked through some of the latest IGN reviews and picked the ones I thought looked the most popular, HoMM4 wasn't on it, and I had forgotten about it myself. But that's why I had the other option.

Any more information on this game?? Like websites or such. XCom 1 was my first love... The ones after Apocalypse I didnt even go near. If they are actually making it a strategy game again, it would be worth a look. (despite being owned by infogreed)
For me:
MoO 3, Deus Ex 2, Thief 3, maybe Star Wars if its decent.

I really enjoyed shogun, and I'm looking forward to the next game, as its set in the crusades. I always imagined those naginata cavalry were my templar knights anyway. . .
and unreal ii looks just fabulous, even better than halo, (though no warthog ) and i've got high hopes for moo3.
And thats not even considering the many other fabulous games, this will certainly be a delicious year for gaming.

Age of Wonders 2 will be awesome. It will have more building options than the original and the artwork and graphics will be much improved with 3D effects. Its not Masters of Magic 2, but if you liked MoM, AoW2 will definitely be worth checking the demo.
I have been playing AoW for 2 years, the mp and pbem is still active. The developers are active on the forums and they were very good on the first go around with timely and effective patches.
The editor promises that we will have fantastic user maps that will likely surpass anything in the campaigns. While no game will be "perfect", I think this one will come darn close. Look for the demo to be available in March or April. This is a must buy as soon as possible for me.
MOO3 looks good too. I haven't played MOO2, but I really like the original. I'll look at the demo for sure. This one's not a must buy, but I think I'll get it pretty quick.
