You'd think they'd have this sorted out after three editions wouldn't you? Doesn't anyone at Firaxis have access to a historical atlas?

Pinyin and Wade-Giles spellings are mixed up for China.
Several ancient civilisations get the names of modern archaeological sites for their cities instead of the historical names.
Some barbarian tribes are named after periods in the history of the nations they're attacking!
Zohak is a MYTHICAL KING not a city!
Indus is a RIVER not a city!

In the files forum there is a thread about changing the names of cities in the game, and adding many more realistic ones as well.
You should take a look.
