Finland to the expansion civs!
Finland is one of the greatest civs in the world and that's why we need it to civ3. Some of you could think that Sweden is our choise because they had a great kingdom in 17th century and even colonies in America. Sweden was one of Russias worst enemies in the 17th century and they had one very succesful campaing against Russia that was almost succesful. The truth is that most of their troops came from Finland. As the old saying goes: Swedish fought to the last finn.

Well, sadly, Finns weren't voted much, so... (Well, I'm a Finn, and even I didn't vote for us )

Anyhow, Finnish civ would be a fun side project. Special unit could be Korpisoturi, an Infantry that moves all-as-road. (Or would this be too tough?) We had some discussion of this in OT's Suomithreadi.

If we can use Finland to play with as Russia and Sweden did, fine with me.

again and again....

WTF does the actual influence have to do with the possibility of bringing one contry/civ to the game??? AFAIK this game is about changing history, not remaking history.

And it would be nice to sweep the floors with germans and dutch

How about a technologically superior Finnish army making toothpicks out of the Soviets... The Empire Strikes Back!

Reasonable, but what point is being made with this thread then?

The point is the same of all those other threads that have the common goal of getting their own nationality to the game. And their own heroes, city names and leader.

Of course, I understand that. But the starter of this thread was implying Finland was very important in history. And that's not true, at least compared with the civs in the expansion pack now. Hence my remark.

And still nobody answered my question.

Can you spell sarcasm?

Finland has more influence than USA (actually the finnish people than US people): the finnish emmigrants in 17th and 18th century were quite important part of the emmigration movement; thus can be said that without finns there US wouldn't be nearly as powerful than it currently is . Thus more influence

And I were always thinking that Irish were the most important immigrants of America. Aaglo, I still think this. Better arguments please.

What is this Korpisoturi? Is it like the old Alpine Ski unit in Civ II? That would be fun. More background information, please!

Sweden, America; the fact you need other countries to defend your status as civ everytime is just a proof Finland alone didn't manage anything in history.

But all right: name one Finnish president of the USA. Come on, can't be difficult, we Dutch have our Martin van Buren too.

It would be a cross-country ski unit...

Finnish US president: none. NO FINN WOULD ACCEPT THAT KIND OF OFFICE!

Finns did accomplish something. For example Finland was the second country to let women vote in elections (New Zealand was the first IIRC).

So perhaps it is your national character which makes Finland so unimportant...
