Rotate-able Map
This should be easy to do. Would make it a lot easier to plan military campaigns, site cities etc. You notice different things when the map is seen from different angles.

hmm.. I don't know about rotatable, but I do think it would be nice to have a map that would move with your mouse as in SMAC.

I liked the fully rotable map of Populous. It was so neat being able to see anything in 3-D. If they do this for Civ 3 though, drawing you're own units would require a professional artist.

If it moves with your mouse it should be an option. Or else it could get quite annoying.

AH: I assume you mean like the map in SimCity 2000? (You can rotate it in four directins but all units/cities look the same.) Why not? Although it would be a feature few people'd use (Unlike the aforementioned game, units and cities don't block each other), it'd take up a piece of the interface best used for something else (FIRAXIS is known for their design policy of one, non-customisable killer interface) and would mess up your perspective quite a bit (you want up to be east? Not I).
Shadowstrike: I assume that if they are going to implement Bitmapped units they can optionally or by default be made to look the same from every direction, like the chandeliers in Doom or something.

if the map is "3d" like in smac, it HAS to be rotatable!!
countless of times i've made errors cause the unit was from the other side of the hill....

Yeah what I was thinking of was a command in the "view" menu that rotated the map 90 or 180 degrees. I don't this would tax the designers, a simple feature really.

I agree that the map should be 3d/ but as I posted in an earlier thread It should be 'tilted' a la Afterlife and should have 'transparent' options such as in Rollercoaster Tycoon.
And to quote AndyZ : What a good topic you have brought up here!

What a good way to bring up your postcount Andz
Think more of Sim City 3000, that has fully 3D buildings.
But I hope they also have the bit mapped to make it easyer on the rest of us!

Rotatable map like SMAC?! The map in SMAC was so slow to rotate, that when I was moving unit I would resort to desperate measures - move the screen so I can't see the unit, then use the goto command ---> this way I wouldn't have the screen continually trying to move as the unit moves. That's how stupid the map was in SMAC. (Apparently this also happened to someone with 384mb RAM, so it wasn't the hardware's fault.)

The map could 'rotate' such as the one in Sim City 3000 or "The Sims." With the button options.

Rotating sounds useful (although I would not like any greater use for it). I vote yes.
Edit: Hey! I should be a Prince already with my 301 posts!
