Doesn't work with my computer either, due to DataIO Error .
Can you try to fix it Gillskill? Maybe post a former autosave?

I'll try saving and posting it again, along with an autosave, but that will have to be tomorrow I'm afraid.
Gillskill wanders off, mumbling "Damn computers ...".

Uhmmm
My computer seems to wotk just fine (Italian Technology )
Anyway... i'm posting another save file down here (hope it works)
Great Job Gillskill
I would say that the mainland of China is pretty much in our hands now... I spotted also a couple of Mech Inf. And we are also only 1/3 of our potential military size !
Soon Rome and Persia will fall in our hands, than Japan, Baylon and Greece and oops..... guess what.... we win

Well, it didn't work either, but I found a workaround. Since I have my new PC, I'm playing at WinXP, and with a normal (restricted) account it didn't load. But it loaded, when I play with Administrator rights. Gah. Crappy OS.
I don't see the Chinese territory in our hands yet. They have lots of infantries and entrenched infs are hard to crack for tanks. Gotta build a solid bomber fleet. Also I think, that capturing cities may be not a good idea after they have Nationalism and especially with 1.17f.
Anyway, here's a minimap.

It's a relief to see the game has got through.
China is beatable, and is being beaten, but it is not a blitzkrieg. I think it would be better for France to have at least a bit more of China (for defensive reasons), and for strategic reasons it would help to reach the Persian border.
Only one city flipped so far, and with all the hardware around was easily taken back. I don't think there is a problem in holding onto Chinese cities - I prefer to keep them so that they form a carpet to the front-line.

I'm talking not only about flipping, but about rampant unhappyness due to drafting and (maybe) whipping. But on the other hand, these cities are unproductive anyway, just starve them to size 1 and leave it behind.
Hope things work now out, JMarks and FNBrown. I would be glad to see a turn from you.

I'm all over it
Edit: No, I'm not. The exact same problem occurs this time. Could you play one game turn, and resave it? Or, Brown, I guess you could go if you can get it. Help, Help, I'm running out of break!

This may be a file security problem... if you guys are on windows 2000 or XP, you may want to check the security properties of the savegame before you run it... make sure that "Everyone" has "Full Control" rights...
Just a guess...

I wish your guess was right. However I'm using good ol' unreliable '98, and this is the first time this has happened to me, and only with this save. Hey, I was even the one to start this game. How disapointing. Then again, mabey I just need to reinstall the game. Anyway, FNBrown, feel free to take your turn, and I'll try to see if anything else might work so I can follow you up, ok?
PS, after this game (and probably after this semester is over being as I like to get good grades) who'd like to join me in a Diety Succuession game? Sure we'll probably loose, but thats have the fun! Or not.

It's probably not a version issue, as 1.16 and 1.17 work well together. Could it be that some AI sunk the last German ship? Anyone tried to play a few turns with the game? (I can't play at the moment)

Well, spring break is over, and Markos, having finished his BS in Rocket Science returns to his home in the southern Ocean. The piece of paper he discovered turned out to be an ancient lottery ticket for the rulership of the French. However, wishing instead to build rockets to take his people to Alpha Centauri, he gives the ticket to his best friend from college, F.N. Brown. Mabey its still redemable...
PS, if no one can play (due to crashes) I suggest we conspire with one another for a glorious (or disastrous) ending to our story, it can't stay in limbo like this!

Well, I was busy during Easter reinstalling my complete home network and did not even try to play, because I thought either JMarks (if possible) or FNBrown would. Now I am free to play again, and if nobody responds during today or tomorrow, I'll try it Thursday or Friday. I think we should not go for domination or conquest, but launch the spaceship ASAP and start a new game. Your opinions?

I had the same problem with the game crashing when I tried over the weekend, and I didn't really have much time to troubleshoot it.
Sir Ralph - give it a shot. If it works, I'll try again later in the game. Otherwise, I look forward to our next game!

Wow, a lot of tanks, artilleries and bombers at the other continent. Enough for warmongering at heart's content. I played exactly 1 turn, took 2 cities, razed one and was just attacking the next Chinese city, when the game crashed. Rien ne va plus. Seems we're screwed.

It looks like he is going good to me !
I've been able to take three smaller chinese cities and decimate the Chinese capital (didn't took it, was unlucky to lose a tank against a red wounded drafty).
I couldn't finishe the turn because I have to do my homework too .
Aniway... here is the save.... . If it works on your computers good!
If not..... well.... I don't know.....
I can keep playing all the way to the end and share the story with you

I can't play anymore, but I'm in full favor of a collabrative end story. Unless anyone else (Aside from Giovani) can play it without it crashing, that is the course I would take. What more glorious ending can we get than the one we make up ourselves? This way we can carefully intertwine story threads together. Someone has to win the lottery for rulership, and a giant fish spacecraft falling back into the atmosphere in full flame might be interesting... But it depends on what everyone else will want to do too. Cow tongue anyone?
Anyother suggestions?

See if FNBrown is still able to play. Otherwise I think we should start on our end story. If Brown can't play, how shall we go about it? Succession story, one after the other? Or a combined story effort, or a mixture of the two (collaberative succession). What do you guys think?

I think Giovanni and Gillskill also can play. May be they should try it again. It seemed to work for Giovanni. Hell knows what's wrong with the savegame. I have a brandnew installation of Civ3 on a brandnew computer, and play so far at huge maps without problems.

I posted a link to the savegame in the "1.17f bug reports" thread. Maybe Firaxis could take a look at it, to prevent future crashes.

My attempt to play was unsuccessful.
Not exactly how I expected the game to end... but not altogether disappointing. We had established ourselves as an insurmountable global force - perhaps we would not have been able to conquer the world, but it is a certainty that no one would have challenged us.
I think that victory, by one means or another, was inevitable, and that's good enough for me... if we want to call it a game and start working on a conclusion storyline, I'm OK with that...
Of course, we should also take a vote... what Civ to play as for the next time around.

Sounds good to me. I'll start my segment of the story later, should we have a tragic ending, or a glorious ending? Up to you guys.
Although I'm not in favor of it, I think a game along the lines of 'The Morons' sounds interesting. However, instead of the morons, how about 'the atheists'? Hmmm. Try that at Diety! Anywhoo, my vote is for an industrious civ at Emperor level (that is the one above regent, right?).
