Although 2 is most likely, I hope for option 4.

Hotseat - more people play on same computer
PBEM - play by email
other sorts: all standard (LAN, internet, etc...)

Just to give a hint, this is from GameSpot's briography of Sid:
Quote:

Worse, MicroProse tried to pull the wool over the eyes of the fans of its most storied franchise by releasing CivNet a mere four months before Sid Meier's Civilization II, without letting anyone know of the latter game's impending release until after the sales curve of CivNet had flattened. The controversy deepened when Civilization II shipped with no multiplayer options, but with some evidence of multiplayer hooks buried in the code.

If I were marketing Civ3 I would have opted for releasing a SP version, a multiplayer edition and a gold edition. This only makes sense. If Civ3 were in the same league as Civ and Civ2 then it would bear up well and everyone would get their moneys worth.
If you produce a great game you should make a pile, cause lots of games make little. The public should be made to pay through the nose for great games...otherwise their would be no reason for developers to knock themselves out trying to make great games. And no reason for publishers to risk their capital on games at all.
The problem here is that Civ3 isn't a good game much less a great one. Firaxis should take the heat for that, not Infrograms. IMHO.
I am waiting for a Big Huge Game from Brian. LOL!

I'm hoping for a MP of some sort to be released soon, however, I honestly can't see how it can be executed well. The user interface and unit movement is so poorly designed that a single players turn will take FOREVER. Firaxis should have taken notes on CTP2's interface and MP so they could have learned how to do it correctly.

Let's see: Thug X smashes up your car with a baseball bat. Thug X comes down the street a few months later with similar-looking baseball bat. You gonna show him to your car?

Did they give free patch to make Civ II into Civ II MGE ?
No. THe cheap, greedy bastards didn't give you anything.
Next question. Do you think you'll be given anything this time?
No. The cheap, greedy bastards won't give you anything.
I voted patch on all, regardless.

Not pessimists, but rather realists.

Yes, you are right.
Option 6 is for pessimist.
While option 5 is sci-fi.

Oops, I voted for the first option. Chalk it up to a careless read of the question. Sue me, I just finished an exam.
I meant to pick option two. Count me among the pessimists.

C'mon folks. Do you really think that Firaxis will have the whole staff (could it be 40 people?) working for 4 months and then give the whole thing away for free?
If you do think so, don't start a company of your own, it would be a bad idea!

Hmm...
1) 23,40% dreamers. This result is just to big.
2) 44,68% realists. Expected.
3) 12,77% I just hope that this won't happend. I love playing Hotseat.
4) 10,64% optimists. Ok, not much people are optimists these days.
5) 0% sci-fi. This option was just for testing anyway
6) 8.51% pessimists. Yin & co. I assume.

I voted 'nothing' because you have not covered all eventualities. There isn't even an option that includes bananas, for a start
Firaxis will provide no more than Infogrames pay them to provide unless experimental work turns out ot make it easy to do to gain them a few extra brownie points at minimal cost (like a few more editor features). If testing multiplayer shows it to be too cumbersome for most of their potential market to bother purchasing we won't get anything at all because Infogrames will not bother publishing something that is not expected tot make back its production and marketing costs.

Something wrong with my mouse: I tried to click on 5.5:
Hotseat and PBEM in XP, no MP
but I couldn't. So voted for 6 instead. I just cannot see MP working with the game as it stands; it'd be *sooooo* slow and can you imagine late game tedium multiplied by the number of human players? Ghastly.
Lest you think I have gone over to the dark side of the fora, I haven't given up hope of patches/XP solving many of the problems still with the game. For single player at least.
