If I understand defense bonuses...
Say a musketman is in a walled metropolis built on top of a hill and his attackers are attacking from across a river...
Does the musketman defend at 13?

musketman def = 4
metropolis def = x2
hill def = x1.5
river def = x1.25
...or did I get the hill wrong, is it x2?
4x2x1.5x1.25 = 15, or
4x2x2x1.25 = 20 if hill doubles defense.

I was adding as follows:
Musketman: 4
Metrop: 100%
Walls: 50%
Hills: 50%
Across River: 25%
(4x(100%+50%+50%+25%))+(4x100%) = 13
(4x225%)+(4x100%) = 13
9+4=13

You can't have a walled metropolis.

Good point! The walls make a town defend as a city...
So the defense value is 7.5 or 10, depending on the hill bonus...

erm... noone but me ever noticed that as soon as you build a cizty it produces at least 2 food, 1 shield and 1 gold?
IfI understand it, it means you cannot build a city on a hill. The terrain square becomes a plains square or a grassland square and therefore adds no defense bonus
But then I might be wrong, maybe the terrain is even kept and it just changes the resource production

Building a city on a hill is no problem. Mountain doesn't work (I THINK I checked this).
The 2-1-1 resource is a minimum for a city, so even if you built in the desert, you would get at least this.

You cannot build a city on a mountain - I've tried. Too bad, it would be cool to have a mountain top fortress-city!
