CivII
so, have any of you guys given any more thought to tribe/team play?
the next logial step for us, since CivIII sux?
please, this is a MP CivII thread, not a "Civ3 vs. Civ2" thread, stay on topic
Civfanatics dropped the ball on tribes, gameleague dropped the ball on tribes. what is so damn hard about getting some games together and having fun? team games aren't new, happens all the time when you ally with a close neighbor, or gang up on someone. the only difference is, the team is agreed to ahead of the game starting.
your first goal is to meat up with your teamates, trade maps and tech, and take over the world, what could be more fun than that???

There was never enough active players to make Civ2 tribes sucessful. I haven't been keeping up with civfanatic's attempts at tribes, but they were hailed by GL bashers everywhere, seems now they are thrown in the same catigory.
The system just doesn't work well enough. Civ2 isn't massive multiplayer enough to have teams large enough to get enough games pushed through, the length of civ2 games doesn't help any either. If a game gets started, its rarely finished and if it is finished, it takes way too long for a number of games to be finished..........
It seems that if players want to experience true "team" games they should just try to pick up teams for a single game and enjoy it, and not worry about trying to maintain and organized alliance of members to cross over many games, not only are there not enough active players for these large teams, but when they are centrally organized by someone, everyone seems to up to the best 4 or 5 teams, reducing the active number of playable tribes, and weakening newer teams.........

i actually agree with you on 99% of your post . Civ2 doesn't have the large following games like Asherons Call have.
BUT, there are alot of great players here at Apolyton, that do actually continue games. Civ2 is an older game, which makes the desire of finding new ways to play it, more important. Diplo-games for example, have renewed the game for many. OCC games and so on...
i for one, didn't like gameleague as a whole. there were parts of it...but not all of it. i never really hooked the idea of Civladders and Civfanatics, i joined...but wasn't very active. maybe 4 posts, no individual games, and no tribe games.
there was a time when we were interested in tribe alot, there are still some tribes out there, Tuatha and Blackhand to name two. all i am asking is for a group(2-4) players, to try to get some organization, and formalize their alliances. i have not played a tribe game in a very long time, but i play my tribemates almost everyday. i see the same people on the zone, same on ICQ and so on. if these people are online together playing civ2, then why can't we play together as teams?

You can.
If you get your 2-4 people together and start playing games that'd be fine. But there's a good chance that with tribes that small, one person from one tribe or another will get hung up, can't play, or just plain disappear. So the game is halted, unless it can be subbed.......
difficulty of completeing games aside........
It doesn't take any apolyton, or a gameleague or a civfanatics to simply list tribes. Forcing some sort of rules convention, or rating the tribes is another matter entirely. That slows down the who can play what of civ2, that is already burdensome on its own.

actually i have a neat suggestion....what about 4 player games of 2vs2....instead of big tribes... you pick a partner and thats your team..... you challenge another two players and such as it goes...
people i play with are pretty rigid on their days of playing ...so i know if i can or cannot play usually without even talking to them
just a thought

I'm ready for a continuing Civ2 game with a partner... Sundays? It seems to me that Civ2 MP is still the best game around.

Well 3 v 3's are pretty fun too. I would say the tribes needs to have a cap on the amount of players and that should be set at 3.

Just wanted to let you all know that Blackhand is available to play tribe games with all reputable tribes. We still have a game to finish against Tuatha (I've been talking to boann for some time now about it to finish it off) and against Jagz (a very tight, interesting, and balanced game).
We need an agreed forum to discuss tribe games, because I don't want to go back and forth from civfanatics. Bad move on their part to not support civfanatics games. I will be using CF now primarily for ladder play and may very well shift bases if another site decides to provide tribe support.

Tuatha will continue no matter what or where.
all of us love tribe play.
im sure we can talk about tribe games in this forum
since tribe is Civ II MP.
now that the holidays are over , we should be able to
find some game time.
atawa and his tribe want a 2 on 2 with slow and AoA
tonight .
spartan when is a good day for our blackhand game
continue?
im sure max and i and maybe berz or war4 can continue
this 3 on 3 game.
we don't need any sanctioned forum or league
to enjoy tribe games do we brothers.
my opinion is that anytime im in any game i
represent Tuatha and our ethics of play
...so if there are 2 Tuatha in
a game and it is an alliance game..
then it becomes a tribe game...whether in
practice or organized competition.
of course we do like to play games
where we are all out just for ourselves.
but even then i think we all are known as Tuatha

Actually, Boozemaster and I decided Thursday would be the best time. How about we make it Thursday night, 7:00 PM EST time? I want to make this a long session (will need some commitment from the 6 players we get) so we can put an end to this very interesting tribe game. As of right now, the Blackhand has an impressive lead in wonders and such, and it should be interesting how the game turns out.
I repeat:
Thursday 7:00 PM EASTERN time and meeting time will be in the zone. I will email my tribemates and call them to arms.

Cave bear and OWL
Does the OWL still live? The tribes are strong: With Blackhand, Tuatha, Jagz, Ateam, and Crusaders still around. Let's work on making a ladder for tribe play (any volunteers) and keep tribes going strong.
