unit workshop
The one in SMAC. I hate it.

It's clumsy and overcomplicated.

I suggest civ3 goes back to the the civ2 unit style. Also, no more units rotating with fancy graphics, it's just a waste of time and computer code.

I agree that the one in SMAC was too complicated but I think a simplied version would be great for civ3. I think it would keep you in suspense by watching a unit you've never seen before not knowing its hitpower, defense or anything and wondering how your gonna find out what this thing is made of. A recent example is the Stealth Figther and Iraq

Sid Meier quote:

"We've developed a brand new graphics engine that will bring the Civ world alive like never before and we continue to work on an interface that will make Civ III the most intuitive to play in the series."

I quess "alive" means for example animated units. About the unit workshop; well, i woudnt weep if they get rid of it.

Yes the one in SMAC was very complicated. But how would you do a less complicated version? I suggest that you create one purely for infantry and cavalry, allowing you to upgrade weapons and armour. This should also allow you to upgrade them. It is very annoying having to keep on rebuilding your army due to a significant improvment in Technology.

What would be amazing would be to have a polymorphic AI which would build units according to your likes and dislikes (which would be identified during the first few games).

However, the possibility of that happening is low. A smarter Unit Workshop AI could make it less of a hassle (as in SMAC).

well I would like something like that model... one sec...

1 . Units names
Units will be called in their real names , like Brigade,
Division etc . Veteran Units will Have Nicks .

2 . Custom units
You'll be able to create your own Units .
you'll be able to determin how much Inf. how much APCs
and how much tanks and cannons are there .

3. Creating "Raw material" for unit assembly
You will build Tanks in Cities with Factories
You will build Infantry in any city ...
You will build Cannons in Cities with Factories ...etc. etc.

4. Assmebling a unit :
-you get into a city
-enter the military screen
-press assemble unit
-choose given unit or custom unit
( built in kind of workshop)
-when you choose it it will begin the creation of the Unit
first of all it will search for ( raw material ) in the home city
if not enough vehicles or personnel are in the city , it will
call the extras needed from the Neighbouring cities etc.

5."Raw material" - vehicles and personnel arriving to host city and support
they'll get to the host city through the roads . if such dont exist they'll
get through the fastest way possible.

6. Support Routes

units demand support . infantry demand food . vehicles demand oil ( yep! oil! )
the support routs will go from the home city ( originally the city where the unit
was assembled . could be changed though ) .
