Stop Centering My Units!
There's a Preference to prevent centering the map on the currently active unit but it's not working for me. Bug?

Not for me, thanks. I already had breakfast.
If you want to stay in the same region for a while, you can always activate a unit sentried at a nearby base. For the most part I don't mind the centering.

Sometimes I hate the centering, especially when I'm trying to systematically look through an opponent's bases, so there's no unit I can activate to hold the center. If anyone knows how to defeat the auto-centering, please help!

For the "systematically looking through opponent's bases" case, hit V to switch to View Tiles mode first. That takes care of the centering problem, since the cursor moves to a base when you zoom to it.

Yah, same thing, but I right-click on the sqaure I want and choose move cursor here or whatever it is. Then when I'm ready to move again I either hit C or V to center on current unit or find a unit to move, respectively.

Is this what you are referring to?
ADVANCED PREFERENCES:
Don't center on units with orders.
You will always be centered on a unit without orders.
I don't use this option because I like to see everything. When I had it on to see what it did, though, it worked. I never saw what units with orders were doing until their situation required my direction, such as encountering an enemy unit, or simply needing new orders upon completion of previous orders.
