Let's be patient! as the game moves forward, I am sure that Firaxis will tell us more about the game. I can't wait!
Stratos: since Sid mentionned cornering the market, I think there will probably be an economic victory. So, I think they will improve the ways of winning the game. I think that Firaxis will have "deeper changes". They just have not told us everything yet! Let's be patient. I can't wait for screenshots myself. I am curious about, as Sid put it, the "brand new graphics engine that will bring the Civ world alive like never before".
Civ3 will take CTP2 down for the count!!

cybershy, you used the wrong word... You should use Dr. Meier or something like that. One of my professors explicitly stated in the beginning of the semester that all students MUST call him Prof. 'something' or Doctor 'something'. The reason: because he spent 10 years just to get that title!
I hope Sid is not angry at you.

My thanks to Sid, not only for letting us know he's read and valued our input enough to actually consider and incorporate our ideas into Civ 3, but also for giving us an (admittedly vague) update regarding the status of the game. We know it's gonna be a while, but a positive message from on high is always welcome.
I'd like to add that I can only hope this becomes a future trend, where game developers listen closely to what the fans are asking for and actually try to adapt their concepts into upcoming games. Perhaps we can avoid having a market full of crap in this way.
Thanks for making us happy (again) Sid! The grass is greener, the sun is brighter...even my dog doesn't smell quite as stinky today.
God bless us, everyone!!

Hmmmmmm.....
What else can I say that everyone else hasn't already? We're happy, excited, thrilled, and impatient at the same time!!!
(BTW Thunderfall, I like Dr. Meier.)
As for the beta test list, sign me up too!
Finally, I agree with Slingshot in saying 'thank you' to MarkG & DanQ for their work on the site.
Party on & long live Civ!!!

It brought tears to my eyes. I kept looking for that dreaded word "real time". With him not mentioning it assumes that it won't be??

Korn - you are absolutely right about the beta test!
And here some critical voices: Sid said nothing about the "deeper changes" in the games, just some improvements. What I want to know is if CIV III will be more realistic in the way it ends:
- will be there other possibilities to end the game instead of slaugthering al other civilizations or building a spaceship?
- what's about the concepts of world's peace, of culture, of religion and minorities?
I want more deeper information from Firaxis, not just a statement like "... and there will be many, many, many more other changes ..."

My memory is not so good. Is any of this in the 500-page suggestion list?

Hello!
That's good news from "Dr. Meier", though surely vague. Especially as Civ2 was the ONLY reason for me to change from Commodore Amiga to MS-DOS/Windows.

After reading many posts in many threads following the departure of Brian to the seductive but evil land of RTS,one might have drawn the conclusion that Sid was dead.

Hmmm...
Just read in GamesDomain, (one of my favourite games sites), that they are quoting from Sids statement as a news item.
However Apolyton is referred to as a "fan site". It would have been nice if they had given Apolyton a name check,- or have you annoyed them in the past Markos/Dan?

I think this thread has the highest density of and of any I have ever seen. Shiny, Happy People!
I think that the computer manufacturers should but us CIV3. It's gonna cost me a couple grand, software not included!
Very nice news, but if you want a out of me, I want a 2000 release date!

Markos,
Don't worry. This just means they are trying to keep Apolyton a secret before millions more people come here. But the day of The Great Apolyton Congregation is nearly upon us!
(...anyway, I'm sure Apolyton will get a lot more press as Civ3 gets released...)

The List had nearly endless stuff about trade and military units, including most or all (I'd have to check) of the stuff Sid mentioned.
Cool, huh?

I'm happy to hear from Sid because of the silencing of all those downers who thought that civ3 would curl up and die with all those Firaxis members leaving. some even went so far as to suggest that there wasn't any point in hoping for any civ3 because of this.
The message from Sid not only lets us know that civ3 development is alive and well, but also that Sid Himself is involved in it, instead of just "overseeing" the project.
I suppose the next thing to eclipse this news will be to hear that activision has hired BigHugeGames to make ctp2 the next generation of RTS. No, I don't have any inside line, just musing

It is nice that Sid Meier's spoke up about the game. Helps to alleviate fears. The only problem is that Hasbro is involved. Any of you that know what Hasbro did to Mechwarrior 3, know what the problem is.....

It's good to get some reassurance that there is going to be some innovation in CivIII.
I could care less about what happens to CTP2. I think it would be poetic justice if they turned it into a "Star Wars Rebellion" like RTS bomb.

*MAJOR bump*
The message that this thread is linked to at the start is just too cool - I didn't even know of it 'till the Admiral mentioned it - knowing it would've meant that I wouldn't have spent so many posts arguing a fait accompli.

This is completely stunning! It is particularly good that they have not only used the list but also picked what I think are the most important suggestions from it and are incorporating them. Brilliant!

I'll bump this once for the newbies - the message from sid (link on first page) contained info on what Firaxis had put into the game already (but it's old news).
