Maryland, DC and Virginia Lets meet!
Hey folks. no one responded last time I posted this, but lets see what we can do now. We've got several players in the area, we should get together and do something. Meet in real life.
I know Cavebear is in Maryland. Prometheus is in DC for the semester, I'm here, Capo is here. I'm sure there are more I don't remember. Lets get together.
Post here to plan it out. Or e-mail me at OzzyKP@aol.com

Ok, cool. Most my evenings are shot, i've got class at 5:30 on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Weekends are probably the best time.

so there
living and working in Fairfax County, and I am more boring than sterilized dirt
all joking aside (temporarily ), my schedule is crap, weekday nights are not possible. only the weekends are do-able, depending on the location of the meet.

Ok cool then.
It'll deffinately have to be on a weekend. Oh, and Prom, I can't do anything this Sunday, I just remembered one of my friends has her graduation this Sunday.
Perhaps a week from this Sunday? Hopefully we can get in touch with Capo and Cavebear and whoever else is here before then.

Hmmm...
I might possibly maybe be mildly intrigued in a sort of offhand way to meet someone as boring as sterilized dirt. LOL!
Well, seriously, it would have to be a Friday or Saturday night. I have a real job, and I have to get up too damn early to get to it to go anywhere weeknights ("late to bed, early to rise" makes a person cranky and sadistic, and I have to deal with *people*).
With my luck, I suppose you all will want to meet in either Montgomery County or Northern VA, and I'm in Southern MD.
What kind of place do you guys want to meet at? A casual restaurant might be best. I prefer Chinese, but I'll eat anything from McDonald's on up as long as the food is cooked and it is not fish.
Or some other idea?

Oz, fine by me.
I am ok to meet anywhere that is with in walking distance of a Metro Stop, unless I can grab a ride with Oz. And that’s if he has alternative transportation.

as for the meeting spot
i'd prefer Northern VA
but i've a car so i'm flexible, though i prefer not to drive in DC (i always seem to get lost and i can never find a parking spot ), so if it's in DC i'd prefer it to be close to a metro stop
as for when, i guess saturday night would be best, my friday evenings are (rarely) spent on a game of civ or (usually) some extra (in my case"late to bed and early to rise" makes me cranky and stupid )

Well my suggestions would be Montgomery County (sorry Cave) or at American University. Mainly because i know this area best, and I know if we meet on a weekend AU has parking, and Prom is already there. Its in NW DC, but near the MD border so you wouldn't have to venture too far into the city which I agree is a ***** for cars.
Though on the other hand it'd be nice to break out of my coccoon and visit some new areas. Every time I go to Northern Virginia though I get lost. A few weeks ago I had a speech to give over there and I think i passed the Pentagon 6 times before I got to my destination.
Anyways those are my thoughts. AU has some lounges and stuff we could just hang at. Its accessable to the metro via a shuttle and there are a few selections in Tenleytown for dinner if we were so inclined.
Still no word from Capo, the realization that he was right in the area and Prom was coming to AU was my spark for doing this.

Sometimes it is a good idea to have some sort of activity available when meeting new people. It gives something to do while figuring out what is had in common with others and disguises the silences between conversation. It doesn't really matter whether it is eating, watching TV, playing a sport, or even feeding ducks at a pond.
I think some of the easiest conversation comes up while waiting your turn to do some else. You go bowling, and when it is not your turn, you have a chance to talk to someone else (or not, comfortably). Or you can start by talking about the food at a restaurant and conversation can turn to other subjects. Etc.
I can guarantee that I'm not going to go meet strangers and plant myself in a chair and just talk and hope something comes of it. There has to be something to *do* while we get to know each other, and I don't care if it is Chinese checkers, a Rubik's cube, or food. But something...
I like the idea of meeting, but the plan seems weak. Suggestions? Or let it die?

Good points cavebear.
So, what activity should we go for?
Dinner is the easiest and most common thing for us to do.
If we want to stick to AU I know restuarants in the area. Guapos is a mexican place that is pretty good. Right by the Tenlytown metro. Thoughts?

That's difficult. I don't think in terms of Metro subway stations, and I don't go out for social activities very much.
Still...
It seems like DC is a fair central point for us to meet, although upper to mid Prince George county might also be close to central for us (it takes me 35 minutes to get to New Carrollton, and that should be about the same (or less) from Montgomery county or N VA.
As to what to do... Some activities come to mind. Bowling, arcades, restaraunts. Any of those give plenty of opportunity for talking, but some outside distractions as well.
In DC, I only know a good chinese restaraunt (Charlie Chiangs) and a good sub shop (Quiznos sp?). They are both near Farragut West Metro station. Of course, there are Smithsonian museums there, too (at the Smithsonian station)
As far as eating goes in PG, I'm sure there are chinese, mexican, italian, etc places in that area. I have a friend in New Carrollton; I'll ask him.
I've just called him and left a voice mail message. I'll let you know what he suggests when he returns my call.

When I was in Washington DC with my parents (many many many years ago) there was this restaurant called "Babe Ruth" which served some wicked steak! But I don't think they're around anymore (it was a loooong time ago).
And the Smithsonian is always worth a visit.

Sup fools?
I dunno if it would be a good idea for me. I work nights (At a bar, which could be a good idea) and I go to school during the day, except for Thursday which I don't work and Saturday which I do neither. So I dunno, but I've also deleted Civ2 from my computer because I didn't think I'd be back, but I am so I guess I made a stupid decision.
Anyway I'm trying to get back into the community, so if you guys want to actually meet that could be cool. If we're meeting in DC where at, because I probably won't drive since I live right near a metro, but if we are meeting in MD I'll need directions and ****. Damn I always ****ing cuss all the time, its annoying and Ming probably hates it, that ****ing douchebag ********er.
So uh, yeah...

Hey Capo, 'bout time you showed your face.
We are working on the place right now. I was thinking Guapos, which is a good mexican restuarant right by the Tenleytown-AU metro stop on the red line in DC.
Cavebear suggests bowling or something else. I've got coupons for a very non-metro accessable bowling place in Gaithersburg.
DC is a good central location, I suggest we stick to it.

So by rereading comments made it seems the following details are set:
It will be on a Saturday evening.
It will be in DC.
It will be metro accessable.
It will be at a location with stuff going on, probably a restaurant.
Woodley Park, Cleveland Park, Dupont Circle, Tenleytown. All on the Red Line in NW DC have restaurants nearby.

Okay, but...
Alright well, you guys can try and figure it out, the time of day will also be an important issue because I have a strange schedule, basically I work and go to school all day on Monday through Wednesday, then I work and go to school on Friday and I work on Sunday nights. So the day I'm totally free is Saturday but that usually winds up changing, I live in a house with nine people (all of them are between 19 and 23) so we do a lot of **** on the fly. I'm going to have to know when this is going down.
Also, are we doing this just to meet or is there some sort of higher purpose to it? Like should I bring ****?
Alright, well that's where the Capo stands in all of this nonsense, peace.

Well, I found out about places in New Carrollton, but my friend pointed out that the Metro Station isn't in town and you have to take a bus from there to get anywhere. So I guess that won't work. I'll just wait and see if anything definate is decided on...

OK well i've put as clear as posisble what we have figured out so far. So lets work off of that. I've made several suggestions that fit the above criteria. I haven't heard up or down. So what do people think? Does anyone have problems?

Well...
It doesn't matter to me at all, if its in DC it just has to be metro accessable, if its anywhere in MD then its cool as long as its not in like Fredneck or any insanity like that (ie Columbia etc.) So that's cool.
Or if you guys want we can "chill" at my house, which is basically nine 19-23 year old fools living together. But chilling does involve heavy drinking and efforts that would make Bob Marley happy, so I don't think you guys would want to do that... or would you?

Still on. Just trying to plan things out. People aren't saying yes or no to any proposals, they are just suggesting new ones.

Alright fools...
Alright Ozzy, since you love to be hypocritical (half joke but half serious, you are also guilty of offering suggestions and not deciding yourself... clown) let's do it like this.
We're meeting at Bullfeather's in DC which is a block from the Capitol South metro station. I used to work in the Cannon house office building with Rep. Myrick so if you guys wanna like go in there and see **** I can pull that off too. Any problems with that?
Peace.

Me a hypocrite? You just did once again what I described. Threw another option out there and didn't mention any others. Grrrr.
Well to avoid any taint of hypocrisy, your suggestion isn't too bad. Is it a place where congressmen go? And if so, is it expensive?
Now, what about my suggestion, or others?
